How do you like it? How do you compare it to freeweights? Or can you?

I dont have one but did workout with one. I am a member of a gym so I perfer that over the bowflex...but the fact that its at your home is a plus. I didnt like having to switch the bar...cords...and the process of all that. I still like the individual machines at the gym and free weights. But the commercial on bowflex...well damn that guy looks great :) good luck and let us know. I know friends who have em...the machines...they havent really gotten into it on a scheduled plan...so havent seen any results from them. But you could very well be the ONE :) LET US KNOW AND KEEP HEALTHY :)

Most of the people in those commercials are on strict diets and work out in gyms or are trainers. They are paid for the commercials. Dont be fools ;p

Logger you won't find many 'ironheads' who will say much good about any type of machine. However, if it helps you reach your goals, and you are satisfied with it, then that's what counts. Alot of times it's not the piece of equipment necessarily but the person using it. I say wear that thing out and keep us posted.

agamble, right on as usual. I like my free weights but there will come a time when space will make that impossible. Bowflex may be a good alternative.

the bowflex is just like freeweights, well with the right attachments they are exactly the same. i first started out with freeweights then got a bowflex. i gained about 10 lbs of muscle in the first couple months. now i just keep toned with it. riot if you ever meet someone with one, ask to use it-you may change your mind.

i don't think bowflex can help a serious lifter get bigger, though it can tone you.... good to change it up a little but if you are serious get in a gym.

free weights is the only way to go. bowflex and all that other crap is for people who aren't serious about lifting.

arturo03, What gives you the right to make a statement like that? How do you know about the seriousness of anyone's commitment other than your own? Do you judge simply by the equipment that they use? I think you're full of shit!

I tried a bowflex out for the first time last nite.. I kind of liked it, and I wouldn't mind having one myself. Like most resistance bands/bars, it gets harder/easier depending on how far you've bent the "power rods" and I personally like a more consistant pull that you get from free weights. My arms really shook hard whenever I tried bench pressing too which isn't good or bad. However, it's simple, seems effective, and if I had the money I'd get it.

agamble thats your opinion and this is mine. maybe i came on a little harsh with my statement. but what i meant by it was that if people are willing to spend hundreds of dollars and a stupid machine that they'll probably never use. then you could just as well get a membership at a gym. because if you are dumb enough to buy one of those bow flex or even worse, a Total Gym. then you have the time to get your ass in the car and go to the gym and work out for an hour.

yeah sure, maybe they'll help a little but nothing like free weights. and usually your gym will have everything you need as far as resistance training and cardio. so my advice to anyone even thinking about buying one of these things.

DONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

arturo03 maybe someone has a disability so they can't get to one or someone doesn't have the time to drive to a gym. did you ever think about that? not everyone can drive like you can or has time like you do to sit around and make ignorant comments. yeah it is costly but more effective then just freeweights. if you use the machines properly you do get the same results and sometimes better.

i don't think you have ever tried a bowflex or any home gym equipment before. if you have, probably not properly just to show how "dumb" we are.

i suggest trying a home gym and take your time that you seem to have to use to learn to use it properly and maybe you will change your mind.

I have both free weights and a bowflex. Bought the bowflex to get the wife to stop nagging me. I didn't much care about fitness. I was pretty happy drinking beer and eating junk. Besides, I'd had enough of lifting weights. I was a machinist for 13 years (Ran a CNC lathe). Lifting and machining 150 lb brake drums. 200 in an 8 hour shift-every night. I've had 3 blown discs because of that lifting regimen. Anyway, started using the bowflex to lose weight. Fell in love with working out. I have slowly built up a nice set of free weights which I use extensively. Some exercises I have to perform on the bowflex due to the back. My next surgery will be disc replacement or fusion. I have enough pain now don't need more. Therefore I am very careful with this stuff. That's where the BF really helps. I have really developed nicely with the free weights. All in all I am glad that we got a BF and it does offer a nice variety. You gotta do what you gotta do. I don't know alot, hell I know very little about this stuff (learning more every day) but I do know that I would never judge someone's commitment , effort, or intelligence based on imperfect knowledge of their circumstances. But then I was alot smarter when I was 19 too. BTW I spent my 19,20,and 21 birthday overseas (in the orient) in the company of Uncle Sam. Yes, I was real smart back then. Guess I got dumber with age.

i feel the love here...don't you guys???
haha...anyway, i think that if someone is able a gym membership is the best way to go. that way you have more motivation to get there, especially after you establish relationships there and feel like you would be letting them down if you don't go. ultimately, unless someone is strong willed, the bow flex will eventually just collect dust.. it is good for convenience, saving money in the long run, and a good workout...but if you want to get jacked, hit the weight room.

I am cracking up about these posts!
I have a Cross Bow and love it! It does work. With anything in life, if you are motivated, you will achieve results. I have seen signifigant improvements since I have made my purchase (2 months ago). Don't get me wrong, I will be buying some free weights here in the near future, but geez - I personally don't have the time to drive, work out, drive back. Some of us here are professionals with famailies and just need something convenient.
