i am trying to talk my parents into getting me a bowflex but they seem hesitant
does anyone have one or used one? does it work and is it really worth the money?

Free weights are better

It only works if you do.

As fsdsk says, free weights are better, but if space is an issue, a Bowflex would probably be fine.

The only advantage of the bowflex is that it applies accomidating resistance.
Free weights would be better, and cheaper. You would be better off with a 300 lb barbell weight set, and setting it on the floor. Only $100.
