Does anyone out there use the bowflex? does it work? how would you compare it to using freeweights? i have been lifting free weights for about 2-3 years now, and was just wondering if this thing really works like it says on tv.

thanks,

My wife bought a Bowflex before we were married. At the beginning of this year, I started to use it and it feels nothing like freeweights. I didn't like it at all. Needless to say, I sold it and bought a really great Body Solid freeweight rack/system with everything I needed and still had money left over to buy some good heavy dumbbells. My advice: save yourself some money and go by a complete freeweight system that actually works.

Freeweights can never be replaced by any type of machines. Free weights give you that full weight experiance that machines can't. Machines often help assist you to lift the weight by cables, but you are the only one supporting the weight when using freeweights.

I had one and it was OK for a quick workout, but I wasn't making the gains that I had expected. I ended up selling it and with the $$$$$ I bought some good free weight equipment, still had $$$$$ leftover. Since moving back to free weights I've been making considerable gains. I suggest sticking to the free weights.
