Are box squats harder or is a regular squat harder?

I find box squats a lil harder on the knees, but i usualy have to use a close stance, and can't do a sumo style if i wanted.

Box squats are easier on the knees when performed correctly. They teach you how to sit back in your squat taking pressure off of your knees. They are meant to be done with a wide powerlifting stance. Check the technique in the pics on westside barbell and elite fitness systems.

I use a bench as well. They've taught me to sit back especially with bands, so I've had no knee trouble. As far as difficulty, I only do them as a speed movement so they aren't as heavy obviously, but they sure work.

I use a box that is either an inch below parallel, parallel, or and inch above parallel. I cycle box heights every 3 weeks to keep my hips and back feeling good. Andrew, your set-up might be too low. Try a higher box until you get the dynamic flexibility you need to sit lower.
