Okay, here goes:
1) I need to know what a typical menu for a female trying to loose weight (230lbs) and am told to (3574 cals. and 44 grams of fat). How am I supposed to fit all of that into my diet, and still loose weight? 2) Is red meat a goner for me now that I am dieting? 3)I am a mother of five boys, my gut is big, and I am really overweight, but I also have a lot of muscle under the fat. My arms are huge with muscle and I don't want them to get bigger (don't wanna scare my hubby!), but I do want to get rid of the saggy fat under them. Any advice on that one? 4) My calves are hard as rocks, but no definition, and they are big. What do I do to make them a little smaller and give them definition? OKay, I will stop there... although I do have more. Please can someone get back to me soon? I have emailed a lot of people reaching out to get some motivation/fitness help, and so far, only one person answered me. Please help me out! |

1) I think that figure may be a bit high. I would shoot for around 2760 calories, see where that gets you. A couple weeks should tell, if you are losing, then fine, stay with it, if you are just maintaining, this is your maintenance level, and you can start adjusting downwards or adding exercise to burn off more calories. But you need to find that place to start from.
2)No, red meat is not a goner. There are many good cuts of lean red meat. 3)Yes, exercise and diet. Do resistance training. Do not be afraid to do weights. You will not get big, believe me, we try very hard to get big and have an extremely hard time gaining an ounce. The weights will tone you and make you tight, and get rid of that flab as you put it. Muscle burns calories, burns fat. Throw in some cardio, and with proper diet that fat will melt away. Weight training is extemely important though, as mentioned, muscle stokes the metabolism and will burn fat even at rest. 4)Read answer 3, it is the same. Proper exercise(weights and cardio, and diet) will get you what you want. -------------- Great people never want it easier, they just want to be better! Ron |

britder -
Women tend to marble more fat into their muscles, so where you think you have really big muscles, they won't be as big when you lose fat, it takes a good diet and weight lifting and cardiovascular workouts. Listen to bbfit1, he is the most knowledgeable person here. Look through the nutrition section for good ideas on what to eat and what not to eat, these are all questions that have been asked and asked again! Take it from me (I used to be over 230lbs at >50% bodyfat) It can be done and you must do resistance training. As bb1fit says more muscle burns calories. As you burn fat your arms will slim down. I didn't think I had a lot of fat on my biceps just thought it was mainly muscle with a bit of fat on them, but as my weight dropped my arms became more defined. Good luck and have fun withit!

You three are very helpful. Thank you for all of your support. I am wondering is loosing 8 pounds in two weeks a dangerous thing? or is it okay? I am eating. I eat lots of veggies, some fruit, brown rice, wheat bread. I do not eat eggs anymore, I switched to egg beaters, skim milk, no mayo, no "fat-free" sweets, except once a week. I thought i was doing well, I feel fine. I have been really drinking water, I mean, I use the potty every 20 minutes! lol. I don't drink sodas... I don't know what I should do to slow it down. I don't want to take in any more fat than what I was told to slow it down. Do you think it may have anything to do with quitting smoking?

You probably are dropping excess water weight, when you start getting enough fluids your body lets extra go. i know, I can hold up to 10 lbs in water, yucko.
If it doesn't slow down, then you may want to rethink how mauch you are doing cardio or up your food alittle. Congrats on quitting smoking! Keep up the good work! -------------- Challenge + Consistency = Results "You do or you do not. There is no try." - Yoda |

Heavy weight training and cardio has really help to slim down my legs. They use to look like shapeless tree trunks and yet they managed to look and feel firm. I had my fat analysis done when I first started working out they guy told me I had unusually thick adipose tissue. Which happens when you go a long time without exercise. He also said that as I continue to work out it'll thin out and the fat won't feel so dense. He was right. Hope this helps.

Yes, you have been very helpful. I made a big mistake! I said 8 pounds in two weeks, and actually, I have been dieting for three, only working with this site for two weeks... so saying that, that is about average, right?
