Hey guys and gals. As I said, I'm new here. I'm an 18 year-old college bound guy looking to lose around 120 lbs however long it takes. I've heard this is a great community, and I hope that is true because I would love some suppport.

I've been overweight all my life. Never really been picked on in my later years, because I guess I look tough(?) even though im really just self concious on the inside. It's hard for me to open up to people about my weight issues, since it's just been running my life. No pool, no skins basketball, just no fun.

Over the past four years in high school I gained a ton of weight. Why, I'm not really sure, but I don't have nearly as much energy as I did before. Two years ago I was playing basketball with a fit friend of mine and his 40+ year old Dad, and I was winded within 10 minutes..not a good feeling.

Suprisingly, I have a girlfriend, one that doesn't need to lose weight, and she stands behind me. We are going to go the gym and do cardio together along with another buddy of mine. But what I need to know is the proper diet for me to go on.

I'm able to do extreme dieting, Topamax, the medication im on limits my appetite. I was thinking a veggie/fruit/protein(bean,tuna,turkey)/green tea/water combo of sorts..or just liquid.

I'm not into putting muscle on me..as right now I'm just into losing fat and not bulking up.

Also, my work out reptiore. I'm not sure how to go about it.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Welcome to FT Poetika! Congratulations on getting started. Don't think about it as going on a diet, look at it as changing your eating habits for life. Stay away form liquid diets, fatburners and other so called magic pills. Only diet and exercise will give you permanent healthy weightloss. There is a lot of very helpfull diet information in the nutrition forum. Check out the grocery list for healthy eating. 1-2lbs a week is healthy weightloss. Be patient, there will be lot's of up's and down's, but in the end it will all be worth it. Think about adding weight training, building lean muscle mass is a good thing right now. MUSCLE BURNS FAT 24/7!!! There are some great routines on this site to get you started. Good Luck:big_smile:

PLEASE don't follow a "just liqued" diet!!!!!Will you lose weight at first???yes...will it stay off???NO!!!You will gain more weight in the end. There is alot of great info in the diet and nutrition forum. You can type in questions in the fitbuddy down below like "high protien diet" and get a TON of great info.Ask lots of questions .Don't be shy!Read through the arcives and you'll get alot of answers...maybe even come up with more questions. It sounds like you're on the right track, and I'm glad to hear your girlfriend supports you.Just get some info and like I said PLEASE stay away from "extreme dieting".
Good luck to you,and welcome to ft!!!!:)

Thank Manny and KC for the quick reply and the advice. I didn't think liquid dieting was the way to go, but like a lot of people who have tried a lot of things, I was running out of ideas. I will also try to build lean muscle mass. Thanks again!
