I don't know how to put this so if it's a little confusing let me know and i'll try to claify it more. If you just cut from 190lbs. to 180lbs. then started your bulk at 180 and went up to like 192 and cut back down to 180-185lbs. But when you did your first cut at 190 you had a decent amount of fat from not exercising for a little while but still had some muscle. So will you not build muscle if you bulk up to like 12lbs. and cut 5-7lbs. or what if you bulked back to 190 with a cleaner diet and then went straight back to 180 would have more muscle than before? I mean how much do you know to cut or is it something that you just have to do and get a feel for it?:dumbbell::big_smile::dumbbell:

if a man in a rowboat is traveling south at 5 knots down a river with a cross-current of 2 mph, but the wind is traveling nne at 14 mph, but gusting to 36mph, how many nanoseconds will it take the man to travel 16 miles if his boat springs a leak when the wind is gusting?-------------- i wish you ill, ice-t. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

hmmm, i think you might be in the wrong hemisphere, charlie, but that was an excellent guess.
justin, i keep reading your post and i keep coming back to the last sentence as being the crux or your inquiry. i think that cutting is different for everyone. when i do bulking phases i usually get up to about 177, but when i cut i tend to sit around 168-172 (i'm right around 6 feet tall.) i measure my cutting phases in 3 ways: body composition, general apperance, and maintained strength. for me, the last part is the most important because i don't want to sacrifice strength gains, so when i feel myself not being able to push/pull as much weight, i stop cutting and just maintain. personally, i would rather be able to deadlift 215 than have an extra cut in my abs. for you, however, that might not be the case, and you might want that extra cut. with that being said, yes, i think cutting is something that you have to just "do and get a feel for," as you said in your utterly mind-boggling, although answerable, post. are you a math major? -------------- i wish you ill, ice-t. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

I knew it wasn't going to come out right:laugh::laugh: My goal is to get bigger and bigger till my goal weight of about 215-220 with 12-14% body fat. But i think i get what your saying howdiekat that i should just judge for myself and basically just get a feel by what i look like and how i feel. I like the arm size i have now but if i'm not flexing there not very defined, i would like them the size they are now but being defined without having to flex them...still not making sense?:dumbbell:

that makes MUCH more sense. when i started cutting this past summer i had the same issue with my arms, not wanting to lose size anyway, so i cut my calories but kept doing a strength routine with heavy weights and low reps. it worked quite well. the bad part is now that i've leveled off in that, i feel weak so it's time to go strength/bulk again. i guess this is why we cycle, huh?-------------- i wish you ill, ice-t. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

Clycling is what it is all about. The body is a very adaptive machine and will do so quite quickly. This is the very reason changing things up is so necessary. There are many ways to do this.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

Well i just got off a 6 week cut and now i'm on a 12 week bulk and hope to put 10-12lbs. on and then i was gonna cut..how long?..i don't know yet, guess i'm wondering if i put the 10-12lbs on with a clean diet gaining 1-2lbs. a week how much of that is going to be fat. But i'm guess that varies on the person.

Ok maybe here;s a better way to put it i'm 5'10 now 183 14% i would like to be 195-200 this time next year with the same body fat or a % or 2 less. DO i acieve this by bulking then cutting in a repetative cycle? But i can't cut away all the weight i put on in each bulk or i'll never get there

First off I am still puzzled at the misconception that you can add 1 lb. of solid muscle per week. I wonder if anyone realizes just how much this is? If this were indeed the case, all one would have to do to gain 15 lbs. for instance is work out and diet correctly for 15 weeks and voila'. There are so many misleading articles that are written out there. Think about toilet tissue(an analogy of muscle tissue)...now think about stacking enought of these single sheets on top of each other till you get one lb. That is alot of sheets.

I wasn't expecting it to be all muscle, then i wouldn't have to cut. I was just saying that putting 1lb. a week is my goal, as i have read it's good way to help minimize an over accumulation of fat.

Yep, the slower you add it, the better. Just as the slower you lose, the better. It is when you try to "speed things up" that trouble usually occurs. The body if given the right diet will only do so much, and pushing things results in unwanted resutlts.
