I just got a bench with what are called butterflys on the side. Similar to Leg attachment but for arms or chest. What muscle group does this workout?

I have one too.... used them for flat bench flys, but found them awkward for the incline... but it was a new challenge on the flat bench...

It is a "pec deck". Good for working chest, nice as a finishing type work to burn the chest and develope that outer portion and help with the inner with a good squeeze and hold.

When I tried the flys on them, I just couldn't seem to get the same range of motion as with freeweights.... is that usual and just a little change of pace from the regular flys... I remember I did feel some nasty burn when I used it!

One way a peck deck of this type can be utilized well is to put your entire forearms behind the pad so they are perpendicular to the floor, and push with them, this utilizes the chest much more because you are actually tensing the chest and pushing with it. When you push with your hands you have the tendency to grip so tight that you use more arms.

I noticed that... I wound up using the forearms because it didn't quite feel right with the hands... I was sorta letting the pad roll up the forearmn from the wrist... that seemed more comfortable... interesting contraption...
