Does anyone have a clue as to exactly how much caffeine is too much while you are taking creatine? I have been on it for a month, I am visibly a little bigger, and stronger but I have not gained any weight. I currently weigh 168 and have been drinking about 5 liters of water a day. I also have 2 to 3 cans of diet coke a day. At my job there is no way I could give up my sweet lady caffeine.

I am not sure how much is to much, I have heard too much caffine can nullify the effects of creatine... I don't know how true this is but I do know:

Caffine is a diuretic, meaning it pushes the water out of your cells and out of your body. Creatine is trying to do the opposite of that by allowing your muscles to retain more water.

I personally would give up caffine entirely when I was loading on creatine just so I could get the most out of it. If you really need a caffine fix maybe you should cut down on the caffine you drink.

Hehe, if you don't think you can give it up you should read the post "H20... I'll drink to that" in the General Health and Fitness Issues forum. Might make you want to give up coke for good.

I know caffeine is a diuretic, that's why I was wondering how much can you ingest before it affects water retention.

I would say probably one glass of coffee would probably be enough to start effecting your water retention slightly... Though I don't really know. It is probably different for every person depending on several factors like body type, daily activities, metabolism, etc.

I would cut back on the water a bit. Four litres should be more then enough. I found that on days I drank 4 or more litres of water I would feel run down and groggy. I read an article some where stating that too much water can dilute the sodium levels in your blood leading to health problems... Though you can't believe everything you read.

Has anyone else heard that rumor?

Oh, and does anyone else know how caffine affects your water retention?

(Hehe. Im not trying to hi-jack your thread or anything :P)

There was another post asking this and the reply from bb1fit was that caffeine definitely nulls the affects of creatine. Showing my musband that post was the only way I could get him decaffinated!
