I have a terrible stink! Our male, fixed cat seems to like to pee sitting on the edge of his litter box, problem is 99% of the time he misses, and hits the floor..The floor is concrete(which I know is porous) and we are having a heck of a time getting the odour out..
Because its in the basement, the vents blow the stink up into the rest of the house. We are moving the litter boxes and thorougly cleaning the concrete area, but we need a good cleaner that will help to rid the odour from the concrete.. We may have to consider sealing the concrete floor as well! |

Buy a spray product that have a bioenzyme in it that will kill the bacteria that cause the odor. Stores that sell cleaning products will have them. I would think pet stores will too (at a much higher price I'm sure) Anything that works on the carpet will work on the floor. You may want to try laying a plastic floor mat under/around the litter box. (you know the ones that protect your carpet from dirty boots in the winter) I am using a christmas paper wrap box for my kitty's litter box these days--it's much longer and give her a better chance of hitting the actual litter....now do you know how to get a cat from crapping outside the box:(

Hi Fly
We are actually using the lid from a plastic xmas box as a litter pan,its higher and larger.I actually thought about the plastic floor mat under the litter, thanks! As for crapping..perhaps the cat wants the litter changed more often? |

We had a similar problem with an old cat who preferred peeing in the corner rather than in her litter box. Cleaning the entire area with bleach did the trick for us.

Thanks mystic, but she does it even when the litter is clean. At least she does it in the general area and it is relatively easy to clean up. I'll take the poop over the urine any day. Nice conversation, I feel like a new mom again:laugh:

I agree 100% poop over pee anyday...my female is so very clean, but because she goes outside in the summer, she does her business out there..the male however..how typical for a male to pee on the toilet seat...er I mean the side of the litter box

GO to your vet they should have a few good products...We carry a few good ones: odour-out, x-odor, and vet solutions carries a good line of odor removers....Do not use any ammonia based cleaners as it will make it worse.

Well lol I work at a dog kennel, and we resently bought a condo....and the lady that owned it....was the: "cat lady" of the neighbor hood....she owned about 30cats....and let them go anywhere they wanted bacily...and we had wood flooring.
Bleach worked for some of it, however a faint pee smell was left there. I forgot what its called, however it is a kinda bioenzyme....meaning it has enzymes that break down the urea and other things in pee, then evaporates...we used 2 bottle of it in the house...no more pee. If you catch the pee few mins after he does it....bleach will eat most of it up. It what we use at the kennel. -------------- Get your bicep curling, cut off shirt, matching workout outfit wearing, flexing in mirror "toned" wanna-be ass , out of my squat rack! that's why i don't have cats...lol they are so sweet, but that smell is impossible to get out. Although I do have to say i had one cat which I loved to death who passed away, his name was PieWacket, named by the kids ofcourse cause he was always in the homemade pies i used to make when he was a kitten. Anyways, he was a big, black tomcat, used the potty outside only like a dog, refused litter boxes and only drank fresh water from the faucet, he wouldn't drink water out of a bowl. He was awesome, always brought me home all kinds of goodies, dead mice, dead birds, killed three parakeets we had, but he was totally devoted to me. tear, tear.. last cat I had for the kids was a mess so we got him adopted to a nice old couple whose cat for 12 years passed away, everything worked out well...
I can't help with urine issues, but if you ever need to know how to get rid of skunk smell, email me! LOL! -------------- Bettia.... You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus. -Mark Twain ravenbeauty@freetrainers.com |

Andrew..you should NEVER use bleach with cat urine....cat urine contains ammonia and when mixed with bleach can cause a deadly chemical reaction

Look for a product called Kilz. It seals the floor, and has a microbiotic enzyme in it that should "killz" the odor ha ha ha.
If you find that after using kilz on the floor you still have an odor problem in the rest of the house, you can look at local cleaner supply warehouses for a product called BackOut. It's a stronger enzyme that you can spray on your carpet which should eliminate any leftover smell. |
