Hey there,
I have a beautiful growing 7 yr. old boy who is at 116lb. and about 4ft. 5in.
tall. He is a tad on the heavy side and I really want to monitor his input but am not entirely sure how much he should be taking in? Any knowledge would be appreciated.

Welcome to FT!

What kind of activities does your son participate in? This may be more a matter of what he is eating as opposed to how much.

The guidelines on here are for adults and don't take into account energy required for growing. Usually the advice for overweight kids is to maintain weight whilst continuing to grow, rather than to lose weight. I think advice from a qualified dietician would be best.

As long as he is not overly obese I don't think it would be much of an issue. I have many brothers/Sisters, and they have all gained weight at one time, usually right before a growth Spurt. As long as he eats healthy foods and is somewhat active I think you will be ok. If he is sedentry, and only sits infront of his Gaming console, maybe try and get him involved in some sports. I played Hockey as a Kid from the time I was about 4-5 yrs old.

Encourage him to partake in sports, play with friends, and prepare healthy meals (Remember healthy eating habits Start with your parents ;) )As long as he isn't consistanly 50+ lbs overweight, there is probably not much problem.

If you are overly concerned however, a trip to your family physcian, or a dietician who works with young kids might be beneficial.
