Hello everyone. I'm new to this board, and am wondering if anyone has some advice. I want to lose 20 pounds (give or take). Get lean and lose fat!!! I am currently lifting free weights and eating as much protien as I can get. I am trying to stay at 1200-1300 calories per day. I don't eat anything unless it is less than 30 percent fat, and I try to eat whole wheat stuff, high fiber, high protien... Am I eating too little calories? I don't know how to figure my calories out, and I would like to lose 1-2 pounds a week. I am pretty sedentary unless I am working out. Not a super active person. Thanks for any info I can get!!!

First, don't set a goal like losing 1-2lbs a week. The weight doesn't go on at that rate, so you don't want to take it off at that rate.

Second, throw away the scale. Go by your measurements, body fat%, BMI, how your clothes fit, and how you feel.

For losing, you should be consuming 8-10 calories per pound that you weigh. This should be made up of 1gram protein per pound, .75gram carb per pound, and .25gram fat per pound. It should be combined with a weight lifting and cardio routine like you can find here. All of the calories, protein, carb, and fat, should be the healthy lean type...things like tuna, salmon, chicken breast, lean beef, kidney beans, lima beans, black beans, soybeans, cottage cheese, strawberries, peaches, apples, white grapefruit, skim milk, egg whites, walnuts, whole grain bread, brown or wild rice, olive oil, etc are healthy. Basically, if it comes in a box or has a bunch of ingredients you can't pronounce, limit it. And be sure to drink enough water...1oz per pound is what your body needs.

thanks alot!! I have been reading up on the healthy foods... the 8-10 calories per pound helps me track it a little. it's hard to get 1 gr. of protie per pound when you are only eating 1200 calories!!! I just love carbs too much!!

LOL! I love carbs too. It wasn't very hard to adjust though! I found that I feel a lot more full now than I ever did before and I'm not eating near as much food. :)
