Large calves, thighs, and butts run in my family (every last one of us have them!). Thank GOD for J.Lo because growing up I had low self esteem because they weren't "sexy" then...they were just big. ANYWAY, my calves are SOOO large that it's embarassing. I realize that most is muscle but I'm having a hard time melting away the layer of fat keeping them from having that nice athletic tightness. I've been working out hard for the past few months and recently got an some tweaking done by ASIMMER...My eating habits and exercise habits are posted on the thread I NEED HELP ASAP, if you need that information in order to help...it's too much to write again! But I would really like some input on exercises that will slim them up or at least give me that athlete taut look!

Sweetonion you have to be patient with your body. Everything you are doing is going to pay off big time, but it's going to happen gradually.

Fat calves run in my family too, I'm the only one who doesn't have them. I'm also the one who has never been seriously overweight. My Auntie Bea, God rest her, had the biggest calves of any human I have ever seen and she couldn't have been more than 50lbs overweight. She gimped around in those horrible black clodhopper shoes with these giant calves..., it would have scared anybody.

Keep up the good nutrition and exercise and one of these days you will be amazed at what your body has accomplished because you gave it the tools.

big legs run in my family too

when i was taking ballet they looked very nice and now they are flabby. my ankles are huge too- too big to wear the biggest anklets they sell in the stores. i've gotten over it though. i'm trying to shape them back up by doing things without weights for my calves. when you tone down though the calves will look amazing. football players at my school used to ask me what i did to "bulk them up" like i tried- HA!

You would want to incorporate standing leg raises in to your routine. This would give the muscle an elongated look. Along with proper diet you will see results.

I got quite big legs too and I always have to be careful of not gaining too much weight or they will look HUGE! :surprised:
What really helps is stretching and ALWAYS drink enough water so you'll avoid water retention and big ankles.
