hi yall,

for awhile now i have been trying to gain as much lean muscle mass and weight as possible, and all i have seem to do is drop 22lbs., gain strength and size, really any weight. Does that make sense? I have stayed at 200lbs. for like 5 or 6 months, I run lots of sprints, and heavy lifting, I was doing cardio like 3-5 times a week, but for the past month i have stopped that. I'm going for college football, and i know i definitely need the muscle weight, to be a defensive end, right now at 200 seems pretty damn light to me.

HELP?

gaining or "leaning up" is about your diet

I eat a healthy balanced diet like a viking. I get all my food groups, lots n lots protein , a medium amount of carbs. , i take vitamins, and drink 1-2 gallons of water per day., drink lots of milk and juice, i eat lots of vegetables especially greens. I dont know why im not gaining muscle weight? I also am taking a new protein shake called MEGA WHEY EXTREME which has 60 grams of protein, 7 grams of Leucine, and like 23 other grams of of like 20 other amino acids, glutamine. I dont know where im going wrong. I mean I just seem to be staying at 200lbs. and geting more in shape and muscular, but not gaining weight on the scale, or noticeable more mass.

You know how everyone's always complaining that it takes so much time to lose weight. Well if it went on easy to begin with, it would prob come off easier too. But it doesn't work that way. Lean mass isnt something that you can expect overnight. Keep working, and lift heavy. good luck

i dont expect it overnight, but I have been training as hard as i can for the past 5 years, i just seemed to hit a slump in the past full year. Actually recently I cut out 80% of my cardio, and I gained 9 pounds , and i drink more than a gallon of water per day, so I'm questioning if any of that is really muscle, well i guess I'll find out today, since I'm plannning on runnning my ass off, later :).

I eat about 3500 calories per day. I am going to make an appointment to see a nutritionist.

You are doing too much cardio for a mass gain phase, cut back on the cardio, if possible, or you will need to replace your calories burnt through cardio with a mass gainer.

gowar with your goals in mind...a good benchmark would be to gain 1 lb of lean muscle every month...it will likely be hard to notice initially but will become more apparent after a few or mroe months....5-6 months is not that much for training , especially when you were doing way too much cardio...burning up potential muscle....cut cardio to 0....don't be scared, after you gain lets say 20 pounds through healthy eating and steady caloric increases, you cna always cut back to lose fat....it's very very very veyr difficult to gain lean muscle mass...it takes a long time.....only way you can gaina significant amount as quickly as you want...is steroids....(I don't recommend you try them, but just doing a reality check)....it's all about perserverence.....

also I suggest you adopt a powerlifting style workout...I think it's better at helping gain lean muscle mass, although you can also try higher reps as in bodybuilding to see what works for you...
