I am very confused about how much carbohydrates are ok. My nutrition profile has it set at 392g. But people who are on the Atkins diet recomend staying below 32g. Which is right? Do I need to have less carbs than my profile says. I weigh 196 and am trying to lose 50-60 pounds.

In a word, yes. The first thing to do is define carbohydrates for use. This means no processed carbs, no fancy boxes, bags, etc. Whole grains, non processed carbs. Fibrous veggies, dry beans of all kinds, brown rice, etc. These are good carbs. But even with these, trying to lose 50-60 lbs. with 392 gr. of carbs per day is too much. I would venture to put out there at your bodyweight about 215 gr. per day. This would be on an approximately 2200 calorie per day diet at 40% carbs.

Hi, I would say try to stick to only 3 servings of carbs a day. I hate Atkins with no carbs. Your body needs carbs.
1 slice of bread = 1 carb, 1/2 cup of rice or cereal = 1 carb, 1/2 cup pasta = 1 carb. I am following Sugar Busters and have been for a while. I lost 47pds and am able to maintain. Go here: www.sugarbusters.com for more info.

As mentioned above by BB1, try to stay away from "processed carbs, fancy boxes, bags, etc."(BB1, 2004) Try to make the bread whole wheat, not white flour. Have brown rice, not white. Try to avoid regular pastas or substitute it with whole whaet pasta(I can't believe I just said that because I'm such a guinney). This doesn't go for everyone on here, I'm just responding to VV's specific diet. Good luck VV02, and try those tips.:)
