Ok, one poster jogged me to write this. Folks, carbs are not the devil. It is so like our media complex to take one thing and blame all our fat woes on it. It is convenient to do so. Think back to the fats will make you fat, now carbs will make you fat, and fructose is starting to make the rounds.
Folks, it is not one thing that makes us fat. Carbs are getting villified now due to one simple reason, overprocessing, but more overconsumption. See, when a carb is processed, they typically become much more calorie dense(concentrated). And the serving size for the calories listed on the box is typically small, and noone eats just that much. Now, eat these type carbs at 5 meals per day, or even only 3, but twice the serving size on the box, add in your protein and fats, and voila', most have quickly went over their daily caloric needs. Especially so the more sedentary folks, but yes, even active folks. When you consider it takes an hour on the treadmill to burn 300 calories, yet you get this in serving of one processed carb source, maybe you can see why. Now, does this mean you cannot eat these carbs? NO, what it means is you have to fit them into your daily calorie requirements if you are going to eat them. Heck, one could eat a big mac a day and still lose weight if all else is equal calorie wise.(still below your maintenance) The reason most folks lose weight when they switch to a "clean" diet is because these carbs have little processing, and nutrient dense, and thus by default you have reduced calories. MAGIC?? Don't think so, simply the bottom line, calories in < calories out! It is overconsumption of calories total on a daily basis that adds up to weight gain. You need carbs, you need fat. You simply have to be smart. We can villify anything we want and blame all our problems on that one thing, it is convenient to do. But, bottom line, calories in < calories out. -------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

What timing, I just re-evaluated my diet yesterday actually. Due to time and trying to switch things up I went from eating Kashi GoLean cereal to cottage cheese with a little pineapple. At the same time I happened to switch lunch from a breast of chicken and peas or corn or red beans to green beans, and what do you know for dinner I switched from turkey and low cal bread to tuna. Now I also had 2 snacks in between (apple, or other fruit, and low carb protein drink) but woah about 10am (getting up at 4am) I would just about pass out asleep... I was so tired all the damn time. Looking back I am guessing it was because I would have enough carbs to count on two hands. If I cheated and ate like two cookies I felt like a king all day. lol, that is not the behavor a good diet is suppose to encourage! I really need to re-evaluate my diet.

OOOOPS! I have been on a low carb diet for about a month because it is the fastest way I have found to lose weight. I would love to get on a regular healthy diet that would allow me to lose weight. I am new to this site so I am still learning. Thanks for the info. Hopefully I will figure all this out, I'm kind of confused at the moment.
