OK, here's where I am at now. I know that there are simple carbs, which are the sugars, and complex carbs. But, let's say your diet calls for 400 carbs daily, should a certain percentage of those be complex carbs or do you, on the ocassion you eat simple carbs, find the ones on the lower end of the glycemic index?? And I do know to stay away from high fructose corn syrup :)
Or is there a target number of grams of sugar you should consume??

Conan - focus on getting most of your carbs from Whole grain sources, maybe add 2 servings of natural, whole fruit a day and treat firbrous vegetables as 'free foods' that you can have without counting them towards your total carb amount - does that make sense?
All carbs eventually break down into the same thing, it is the amount of time that they take to break down and the amount of energy required to digest them that makes the difference.
Focus on keeping processed foods out of your diet and your sugar intake should remian fairly low, except for those naturally occurring in whole food sources.
I hope that answers your question, let me know if it doesn't, i will try again.:)
