Hi, I'm fairly new to the community, but I've been reading a lot of threads that discuss whether or not cardio is good for weight loss. I've switched to a healthy diet of mainly grains and fruits with only lean protein just when I feel like I need some. I've also stopped eating after about 6 in the evening, and that gives me about 5 hours before I go to bed at 11. Every morning I get up around 6:30 and do 30 minutes on a stationary bicycle on the mountain climbing setting, and then I do about 20 minutes of chest and ab training. I'm not trying to bulk up, seeing as how I'm already a big guy, so I'm not trying to work on overall size. My problem is that I have a lot of abdominal, thigh, lower back, and chest fat, that is VERY unattractive, and I'd like to lose that. My main question is, am I doing anything right, and if I'm not, someone please suggest a change in what I'm doing. Oh, I also leave the gym around 7:15 and eat at about 7:45, and I rarely have more than 45 minutes to an hour to work out, because it's all I can do before classes start in the morning. Thanks a lot.

welcome to FT eric!

cardio is good for weight loss, but doing weights helps too - this is because every pound of muscle burns 30-50 calories a day even when you're not doing anything, so adding a bit of muscle will really help you lose weight. Why not try a freetrainers program that you can get from this site?

The other thing that's important when you're trying to lose weight is to avoid going into starvation mode. To do this you have to eat every 3-4 hours. I started doing this a few months ago, and discovered that even though I was eating more calories, I actually LOST weight!
Try making sure you have a little protein at every meal (this will also help keep your appetite in check) and try adding a snack last thing at night. How about cottage cheese?

good luck :)
