I love to work out, however when it comes time at the end for cardio....I walk up stairs in shame( cardio room is up stairs at my gym) I HATE it with a passion. It's boring, and I loose intrest in it so easly. I try watching tv, listening to my radio....doing hitt. Rowing mahcines, stair steppers, treds, eliptical things etc.No matter what i can stay intrested. I find my self making excuses, I did legs today, i'm doing leg tomorrow, this is my rest day. I try jogging in my neighbor hood, however it hurts my knees being so heavy. I try to invision a nice 6 pack.....however then I invision bigger arms or chest, and do another set on bench, squat or curls lol anyone have anygood secrets?-------------- if you kick a tiger in the @$$ , you then have to descide what to do with the teath end. any guy can hold a girl by the hand, but only the select few can hold her by her feet! |

I'm in the same boat as you Andrew... I HATE cardio with a passion... however I do have a few tricks... I have tried all the things you've listed, and they don't work for me either... so you ready for my secrets??? ok here they are...
1. Have a Cardio Partner... it soounds lame but it works if you can "latch" onto someone dedicated to cardio... 2. Ok this is what I do... instead of doing the same 'ol boring cardio at the gym, the key is to find something you like... just think of what you used to like doing when you were a kid... I used to like bike riding and swimming... so now I incorporate that into my schedule... ALSO here's a big one... find sports you like now... the more fun your having the less it seems like "work" for example; I LOVE yoga, I ride motocross, play paintball, and snowboard... they are fun but at the same time I am still getting exercise... hope this helps you... -------------- My mind tells me to win, my spirit shows me how, and my body delivers. |

Yup...hate that cardio! Mine comes from tennis solely, unless I'm out riding my mountain bike.-------------- **_Robert_** Pain is temporary; glory is forever! E-mail: rpacheco@freetrainers.com |

my brother in law was riding his bike to work (20 miles each way) every day. it really helped him slim down, and it was good for the environment (saves on gas too!)
maybe you could do something more "practical" like that. you always have to go to work or to class (if you are in school). |

Roller blading is excellent, Has the same effect as the eliptcle trainer. You can also think someone is trying to kill you and you are running to get away!-------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

Yep, cardio is tough. I am in the same boat, I absolutely hate it, moreso in the gym. 5 minutes on a treadmill is like 5 hrs! I can get out on my bike and ride outside for hours, but in the gym??? But, what you need to do get your goal in mind, and get focused. If you do not have 6 pack abs now as you state, and you want them, you have to do whatever it takes to acheive it, and cardio is a big component of this unfortunately for most. Use the same mental toughness you use on your lifting regimine. At first it will be tough, but as you do it more it becomes part of your workout regimine. If you think of it in those terms(part of your workout), you will do it. Once you focus this way, it will become as much a part of your workout as the weights have become.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

Andrew, what about trying to improve your speeds and times on the machines? - see how far you can run or row during session and try to beat it the next time.

I love cardio :P I usually do my boxing, jumprope, I run, and I cycle. If we had a lake here nearby, I'd kayak or row. But I absolutely hate doing cardio indoors. It IS boring, even with good music. But when you do it outdoors, there's the fresh air, the music in your ears and the challenge of always besting yourself.
I think that's an important secret. I'm not a good runner yet, but I try to envision that I'm a track and field athlete. Everytime I go out and run or cycle, I make sure to beat the time that I had the last time I went out. It's a constant challenge. When you're that focused on beating yourself, trust me, you work hard on kicking your own butt and time naturally flies by. Plus the feeling and the knowledge that you -are- stronger, can last longer is so powerful that at the end of the session, you'll end up loving it you want to incorporate as much cardio in your schedule as much as you can. I read about technique and form and study it, I make sure to bug my friend who's a triathlon coach as much as I can, just like the way I study form and technique on bodybuilding. Everything becomes a learning process and putting knowledge into practice is so empowering. At the end of the day, you FEEL strong because you really are. Hope this helps andrew :) -------------- The only way to defeat fear is to treat it with respect. ive gotta be careful running where i live, i cant run in the parks because that is where ive been jumped, and where all the crack heads hang out, i dont like running on concrete because my knees are bad already, and i cant run on the school track in the morning because they put big spikey fences around it. so i just gave up.-------------- guns dont kill people, rappers do call the police, woo woo woo. stay dumb, you know it makes no sense. Also if your knees hurt you might want to look into seeing a specialist or changing your shoes or working more on leg strength. No good having the huge upper body if your legs cant carry it

leg strength? lol guess you haven't seen my legs lol .......I've actually always thought my legs where too heavy for long distance running(31in).......concidering I can leg press well over 1000 for reps and squat near 500.....i doubt that smy problem. Hurt smy knees cause I used to have tendonitis in them a while back, an dit flares up when I run.-------------- if you want sympathy......from me...in a dictionary look between symphony and syphillis.......there you\'ll find it! |

I found that doing cardio in the gym is really really boring...but when I start thinking about my problems and life and what not or school or friends and whatever, time seems to fly rather quickly. Also, I like to reward myself from cardio like after I do it do some weight lifting (not much...just a little bit) I always feel better about my self. Also, it's a good Idea to say how much you love it and crap. THat helps me too. Just an idea.

....if your reading a mag...then your not going hard enough, if I get my heart rate up to 140 or so...my strides are too hard and fast for my eyes to focus on the letters and words.
I see people reading all the time...and they are barly walking.....I'd rather spend 10mins on a bike ball to wall than do 1 hour....walking. -------------- Get your bicep curling, cut off shirt, matching workout outfit wearing, flexing in mirror "toned" wanna-be ass , out of my squat rack!
