I really want to get seriously big strong muscles, but i also need to loose a lot of weight and i love running. Can i only have one or the other? Is weightlifting detrimental to losing fat (cos of lots of protein supplements)? Is doing a lot of running going to cost me muscle?

Kalanchoe, I believe a good step for you right now would be a circuit type training. With this, you can basically do your strength training, and get a decent cardio workout simultaneously. Go from one station to the next in a circuit with no rest between sets. When completeing one circuit, rest 3 minutes or less, and do another circuit. Repeat one more time. This will build you some strength(lean muscle tone), and provide you with weight loss effects of a cardio type workout. YOu can always add some cardio after your circuit training if you desire. You will not build BIG muscles this way, but you will strike a good balance with some lean mass gain and fat loss. Then once you get to your desired look, you can switch to a more conventional weight training program for mass. Remember, nothing burns fat like lean tissue. Watch your diet, and this should work for you.
