Hi, I met with a fitness trainer at my gym... Part of signing up. On a side note... the fitness trainer was not in shape himself. Go figure on that one! But anyways, before I would do weighttraining, mainly freeweights, I would stretch and that is it. But this guy said, I need to warm up first and do cardio for like 16min max before I did any weighttraining. Something about getting oxygenated and having your muscles burn fat. That is what he said anyway. I do my cardio after my workout for like 30minutes. Do you think I should do cardio before like he said? Also, another question, before my workout, I usually just shoot hoops for about 15 minutes before my weighttraining. Is that good enough? I don't have heart rate monitor, should I get one? I found out today what my heart rate should be at.
I guess this is a 3 part question. :)

You do want to do light cardio before your weight training, usually 5-10 minutes. If you are breaking a light sweat shooting hoops that may be sufficient I think, not an expert though just repeating what I've been told by my trainer and others here.
I usually jump on a recumbent bike or elliptical myself and 5 minutes is enough to have me warmed up.. it's getting the blood flowing to your muscles that counts.
If you're going to do heavy cardio, 15-30 minutes, do that after weight training - there's a great thread on that today by thumpiz. I believe it's better to separate the two by hours or even off days, but hey if you're already at the gym.. we do what we have to!

Can someone please tell me, to burn the most fat, should I do a high intense cardio session for 20 minutes or a low impact one for 35-40 mins? I want the one that burns the most fat. Please help.:big_smile:Thank you so much.
