cardio with goal to lower heart rate?

i'm 5'6 130lb-140lb, 25 years old. male

my resting heart rate is 90bpm
(which is rather high!)
my heart beat recovers quickly, so some exercise sending it to 120bpm or 150bpm, for 1min, and within 5min of stopping, it's 100bpm-110bpm. It may be like that for days(since stopping), it certainly is for when doing exercise for longer.

my endurance is very poor.

I am considering doing cardio, with hope of it lowering my resting heart rate and it'd increase my endurance too as a secondary thing.

does anybody have any thoughts or tips regarding my very unusual goal?

Nothing to stop you from trying. Try doing intervals during your cardio and varying the activity. Your HR should get more difficult to raise.

Intervals as Caravan says are beyond a doubt the best way to raise endurance levels, and thus reduce resting heart rate. Intervals will raise and lower your heartrate as you doing them, thus making the heart adapt.

You may want to consult a physician to see if you have an 'underlying' cause that your resting heart rate is so high and would prohibit you from undertaking intervals, as these can be a bit intense.

There is no btr way than to just keep doing more high intensity cardio.

To add to this post, I forgot to mention that research has shown that for adaptations to take place 3 times a week minimum is required.

I agree with bb1 with regards to identifying an underline cause for a resting heart rate >90 bpm. What is your blood pressure?

I agree with hardnfit, high intensity cardio while wearing a heart rate monitor.

My resting hr is <60 and my b/p rarely gets above 98/64, I've been an endurance athlete for 25 years.
