geeeeezzzzz.......high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated corn oil/soy,coconut and other oils seem to be in everything packaged What I,ve read this stuff is pure garbage for your health.
I know the gov is stepping in and making food makers label trans fats in the near future. If its got it on the label I put it back on the shelf.Check it out, I think you will be amazed all the products that use these additives.

This is an interesting fact. At about the same time that high fructose corn syrup was added to most foods (early 70's), people started to gain weight. Coincidence?

Good point agamble, here is another one. In 1971, the USDA food guide pyramid came out.

The USDA Food Guide Pyramid recommends 6 to 11 servings per day from the grain group: bread, cereal, rice and pasta. The maximum recommended servings per day of fruits, vegetables and meats COMBINED is 12.

Gee, do you suppose it's a coincidence that the trends in
calorie intake exactly mirror the recommendations found in
the pyramid? Eat plenty of bread, cereal and pasta, but go
easy on the meats, fruits and vegetables, and what do you
get? An obesity epidemic of epic proportion!

I never made much use of the Food Pyramid but at the high school where I teach it is displayed in the lunch room, the meals are designed around it, and it is taught in the health classes. That indoctrination coupled with the inactivity fostered by our affluent lifestyles has spelled disaster. I don't know what can be done but something needs to be done soon. Maybe government needs to get involved. What am I saying? They couldn't find their a$$ with both hands.

The food pyramid comes from the power of the agriculture giants and the meat and dairy council. It really doesn't have much to do with health.
It is coming to light now in the media how bad processed foods and sugar are for you, but most people will read these articles while eating their krispy kremes and sipping on their extra large Mt Dew and never think it applies to them.

Fight the good fight by being a good role model and giving out as many healthy lifestyle tips as people will listen to!!!

Another reason for the fructose-corn syrup etc, is that it replaces some of the fat that the manufacturer took out so they can call the product "low fat". In turn they are feeding people with the stuff, so it tastes ok, and those products turn into fat in the body. Geeez!
