Total Protein cereal has lots of protein (14 grams per serving) and is low in carbohydrates. It's a good cereal. It has 100% of 12 Vitamins and minerals in each serving...I highly recomend this cereal. Most cereals have lots of carbohydrates, but some are better then others. For instance, 1 and 1/4 of a cup of shredded wheat and bran cereal has 48 grams of carbohydrates as opposed to Apple jacks 1 cup has 28 grams of carbs. Shredded Wheat and Bran Cereal is much healthier though because it only has 1 gram of sugar carbohydrates, and Apple jacks have 28 grams of sugar... Not all carbohydrates are equal. It's much better to get complex carbohydrates then it is to get sugar carbohydrates...
and that's my 2 cents |

This atkins craze thing has gotten a bit out of hand, not all carbs are evil!!!I eat cereal just about every morning, usually different kinds so I don't get bored with them, but luckily there's plenty of tasty and healthy choices out there. I like Kashi Crunch, Smart Start with soy protein, Wheetaflakes, Special K....etc etc. I've tried Total Protein but it kinda has a bad aftertaste, but also I think in the morning (especially before lifting weights) in is necessary to eat carbs and the amount in these cereals is around 30-45 grams per serving so that's not bad at all! I also add half a banana to give it a little kick. And Dx14Ag is right, make sure you're getting complex carbs and not sugary stuff.

Cap'n Crunch... with a couple of scoops of sugar... ha!
Actually, I don't eat as much cereal as I used to.... likely because I can't find anything affordable that doesn't have gallons of sugar and bad things I can't pronounce in it... I usually stick with oatmeal, throw in some blueberrys and maybe a bit of brown sugar... -------------- t I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self. - Aristotle You have the power to change a life right in your own hands. - Paul Brandt |

Smart start, is good protein, carbs and it actually tasts good. That total proetin taste like ........ not good. It has not taste whats so ever.
In the morning you need carbs, your body is low on engery , cause you just sleep for 8 hours! And thats the longest time you body goes without food in a 24 hour day. So 40-50 carbs in the morning won't hurt you. -------------- if you want sympathy......from me...in a dictionary look between symphony and syphillis.......there you\'ll find it! |

That's true bigandrew Total Protein cereal doesn't really taste that great, but I'm not really all about taste...it's more about nutrition for me...and I know high carbs in the morning isn't a bad idea, but that's not the only thing I eat in the morning, I just can't find a cereal with more protein in it at H-E-B (the grocery store I shop at)I try to get in about 400 calories in the morning, but sometimes I fall short of that because I'm not really even hungry.

Kashi...hi protein, hi fiber, low fat.
Kashi 7 grain. Both taste good, and stay crunchy with milk. -------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

i like total protein... there's a place near my work where they have the 11 servings box for $0.25! that's probably because they're usually within a week or so of the 'sell by' date, but that's cool because the whole box won't last more than four days here =)-------------- The following sentence is true. I like Protein power crunch. It's the one with the guy on the bicycle and the kid playing soccer on the front.-------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine now and forever. No one holds command over me. No man. No god. I am ANIMAL! and that is enough. |
