On standing barbell curls you stand still.. keep your arms locked to the side and without rolling your shoulder you use your biceps to mostly 'curl' up the weight.. while with cheat curls (I haven't quite got these down yet so I could be wrong) you bend your knee's slightly and use your bodyweight to help (note this says help.. not do the work for you) you throw the weight up.. so your 'cheating'....

Standing barbell curls - Try doing these while standing against a wall. This will force you to just use your arms in lifting the weights.

Cheat curls - With this exercise, you are recruiting other muscle parts (such as your back) to lift the weights. You can slightly swing the weights up...but the key is to concentrate on slowly bringing the weights down. Basically, your biceps are being worked on during the negative.

Hope this helps...
