Hello all,

I have a question about my bench. I just started benching and noticed I barely finish 8 reps when putting up 115 (2 x 35 plus bar). Then, when I go to 125, I am barely able to finish 4 and so forth. I'm trying to go for mass and want to follow the 8,6,4,max etc. routine, but am unable to meet the required reps.

Q: Should I start at a lighter weight than 115 or just "gut it out" and continue at the weight? Also, I am trying to see the reasoning for everyone's answer so please explain why I should follow what you suggest. I thought I would need to reduce the weight so I could do more reps to fatigue myself more, but don't know if that's the right reasoning. This also happens when I do inclines.

Thanks!

100x8
110x6
120x4
130x2

or whatever.......when you can acolmplish all those reps BY YOURSELF......change the 6 to your 8 rep...
110x8
120x6
130x4
140x2
and so on and so on....

hey i am trying to build mass as well and is that way of lifting weights really help, like i know about the heavy weights low reps but should i be doing the same by going up in weight every set?
