I used to do 3 sets of pull-ups on the chinning bar after my stretching and warmups and before starting my weight training....but now I dont do it anymore cos I thought that I maybe overtrain my lats......I'M confused .....HELP!!!

Chinning is such an exercise which needs the whole of your uper body strength. When u r doing back & shoulders do your chinning till the last.On other days when u r doing exercise of your upper body you can do it just 2 get the pump.Don't make it 2 hard or else it will take up your energy too much.Remember just for warmup purpose.

i built my back exercise around wide the chin up for the program i just devised and it it killing me. I start off with Sternum chin-ups, and if you have never done Sternum chin-ups then you haven't lived.....a set of ten will literially kill you. then i do a set of close grip and finish it off with one set of bent over rows....but those are pretty much all upper back exercises. personally i think that versions of the chin belong up there with bench and squat as being staple exercises of any routine. Start doing Sternum chin-ups on you back day and you will definatlly notice a difference quick, but you may not be able to finish the other exercises you got.

I agree with spedward. sternum chins are damn tough though and it took me a while to be able to do them. For the next couple of days your muscles will let you know how just how effective sternum chins are. u have any pullups in your routine spedward?

hi guys, this is my first post. As a unfit skinny 53 year old i decided to get fit whilst unemployed. Having no money, i heeded the advice on the net and took advantage of living near the seaside (Blackpool!) I now have numerous plastic milk bottles filled with sand/water and a thick broomstick. I do the followin. 3 sets to exhaustion military press, 3 sets upright rowing, 3 sets push ups, 3 sets side lat raise and i have a creaky old exercise bike that i use for me legs. Also do sits ups. But my fav exercise is the chin up. The previous tenant left a chin up bar and at first i could only manage 4/5. I did 17 last night with a 10 weight attached to me belt. I am going to continue using the weight until i can do 25 and then try chins without weight, my goal is to hit 30 just bodyweight.
