i'm interested to get some opinions on this question - i bought fat free cottage cheese for the first time ever the other day, and i took one bite of it and did not care to eat any more. however, i think i might grow to like it. is there any possibliity that this could be an acquired taste?

i had this same issue with a number of things, namely protein powder, peanut butter, onions, and domestic beer. hopefully i am not a lost cause, i feel like i need to eat this stuff...

hec, don't you prefer cottage cheese with apples and walnuts to cookies and ice cream?

Try it with sunflower seeds and/or almonds. I think it is an acquired taste.

The smell, with the flavor... I just can't do it. I've tried, and that's all anyone can ask, right. As far as domestic beer goes, I think I'd eat cottage cheese before I started buying budweiser. Yeck! Newcastle!!

domestic beer was a very unfortunate forced situation. i went on a river tubing trip and there is no glass allowed on the water. sadly, i had to buy coors light, which is no substitute for dos xx or dos xx amber. s-a-d.

cottage cheese is also kind of an unfortunate forced situation - i am poor and need nutrients. i hope i can trick myself into liking it. i just have issues with eating something that looks like cellulite and tastes like hard sour cream. not the most appetizing thing. i'll give it another go when i get home. i'm taking this in baby steps.

howdie I had trouble getting my children to eat cottage cheese until I mixed it with some sugar free green jello. It's cold and creamy and they really like it. Really any flavor of jello is good. You can also just use a little of the sugar free jello powder on cottage cheese, but I don't care for it that way.

I also top baked chicken with cottage cheese and picante sauce and a little low fat cheddar and that's pretty good too.

now that second concoction sounds good. i think i could eat cottage cheese that way. maybe that's the key - i start eating it mixed with stuff and eventually i'll eat it straight-up. kind of like burbon or tequila. on the jello, do you actually make the jello? i could do that with the raspberry i think. i'll thave to try it. thanks for the suggestions, anni.

Sometimes it's the brand... trying a different brand might give you a different taste... certain brands I stay away from just because of the flavor...

Yes, I make the jello plain that way I can vary it. For instance green jello is great mixed with diced cucumber, a tiny bit of carrot, a little apple, that turns it into sort of a green salad. Then the next day you can mix some of the jello with cottage cheese. The next day maybe just eat what's left plain or with a little fresh pineapple.

Another summer salad, which doesn't include cottage cheese, is chop up a whole apple and squeeze a little fresh lemon juice on it. Then take about 2 tbsp of low fat or no fat mayo and 2 tbsp of chopped walnuts and then chill. Sometimes I use this when I have difficulty getting my fats because I'm mostly chicken and fresh veggies and eggs. It sounds weird but it tastes good. I use apple because assimmer told me about a study that concluded that women who included apple as part of their diets lost more weight, faster than women who did not.

Just eat it Howdie kat. Try not to think of it as a yeast infection.

Eating cottage cheese is not as easy as some think.. I have a texture problem. If it is large curd I cant eat it. If it is small curd, I could eat the whole dish in one sitting if I were really hungry. Liver is one thing I cant eat because of texture along with licorice and lima beens.. Texture plays a big part in what people eat.

Hector....that does it, it back to shock therapy for you.

Lilly, if you like the taste and not the texture..you could put it in a blender and puree it with something else.

Here is a great cottage cheese recipe. I make it every second day. My kids love it too which is great.
Cottage Cheese Parfait
1 cup dry cottage cheese
1 cup 1% or no fat cottage cheese
1 cup low fat yogurt
1/4 cup low fat cream cheese
mix 1 cup boiling water & 1 pkg light jello

mix in blender until smooth
stir in 1 cup low fat cool whip
refrigerate for 3 hours

I find using strawberry jello & strawberry yogurt the best, and topping with bananas. My kids love it with lime jello and key lime yogurt.

I can't do fat free cottage cheese. That may be your problem. Fat Free tastes completely different than the 2% and 1% versions. I would suggest trying the 1%, seeing if you like it any better, and if you do, gradually ween yourself to the fat free. My favorite brand is Alpenrose(made here local) It is soooo yummy!! My father in law eats cottage cheese with peaches and pears...another idea for ya!:)

hec, i am in a coffee house right now, and everyone is looking at me because i just laughed so loud that everyone in the entire joint heard me.

getfit, i'm going to try that recipie, it sounds great.

anni, thanks for the extra suggestions. i'm determined to like this biz-nas even if it does look like cellulite and/or what hec so delicately and subtly referred to.

Try a different brand. Try low-fat.
