That's basically the true concept behind the phrase I hate the most: "I just wanna tone." The idea is that by increasing muscle mass (while cutting fat), your body becomes more efficient at burning fat and keeping it off. The more muscle you have, the more energy you need to function.-------------- Michael Trample the weak; hurdle the dead! Chaos, Panic, Disorder.... Yes, my work here is done! |

Yes, yes, yes come on girl, don't be afraid of those weights!!! (o;
Put on some more muscle mass and it'll be sooooo much easier to stay slim (faster metabolism!). Guys, if we didn't have those "just tone" words, we would have even less girls weight training so we need those sweet words! -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

And let's not forget that toned muscles LOOK GOOD! I've seen plenty of women who probably weighed about a hundred pounds, but they also looked like if you blew on them, they'd fall over.
Get some metabolically active muscle on your frame! It will help keep the fat off, and make you look good at the same time! -- Aaron -------------- Aaron M. Potts Aarons Personal Training http://www.aaronspersonaltraining.com Jacksonville, FL |

Nothing better than a muscular (sculpted) body on a lady.

don't get me wrong, I have been training on and off since for about 8 yrs, so I have diffently have some muscle mass. It is just frustrating plateauing for so long when I tended to loose weight with alot more ease. I use to loose when I did increase my protein and slightly decrease my carbs. My fats are usually not that horrible, I enjoy a treat only on occasion when I am trying to loose. In general, my healthy fats are at what they should be. What I am thinking is, is that its my system adjusting to a program with increasing my weights more and creating more muscle before it wants to rev my system up? I don't know I am still confused and abit annoyed actually. all I do know in the end is, I love to train and train hard, and my day is not complete with out hitting up my fav place to go (the gym).

It sounds like you need to maximize the program that you are on to increase your muscle mass, but also keep your bodyfat % where you want it to be. All the muscles in the world won't look good if you can't see them because of the bodyfat. Without knowing your specifics, I can't get too in-depth, but my general advice would be to make sure you are A) Getting enough cardio - say 45 minutes a day, 4 times a week, moderate intensity B) Resting long enough in between your weight training workouts, and C) Getting enough protein in your diet to maximize our muscle gains.
Since you don't have the pile o' testosterone that men have to build muscle mass, your training with weights needs to be more exact, and backed up by proper nutrition and rest. Make sense? -- Aaron |

you may think its a " palateu" but its really not, my last body fat test ( caliper test) said i had 24% body fat ( which i knew was wrong cause ihad electrical one done and it said 19.5, but i still kept with it and worked out hard 3 times a week and i went back and the claiper said i was 19% and i had gained almost 10lbs! yes u might think your stuck but u might just be losing inches or getting rid of body fat and replacing it with muscle, try geting a caliper test done ever 2 or 3 months to see if your putting fat on or if your losing it-------------- ---andrew.......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! |
