hey everyone. im considering trying creatine and ive been doing some research and its supposedly is bad for your kidneys and liver. is this true? what are the chances of this happening? how can i avoid it. i also heard that if you have been on creatine for a while, and u stop taking the suppliment, or stop working out, creatine will have negative effects on your muscle, decreasing mass and strenght greatly. so can someone please clarify any of this and if its true or false?...thanks alot

Sounds like you need to do more research, and not listen to the watercooler gossip. I have yet to read a published study in which there is one case of kidney or liver damage from creatine use.

Do a search here on FT...creatine has been discussed thousands of times. Good luck!

Furry,

I just started taking creatine about 6 months ago. On my own personal experience, creatine has proven to be good for my workout performance and it has helped me gain muscle tissue. I used to take 5 mg a day before my workout, but thanks to the advice of rpacheco and bb1fit now I'm taking it after my workout... now 5 mg is the standard amount although I've been reading here that some people take more than that on a daily basis, depending on their specific goals.

As a matter of fact, when I made my own research on Creatine I found this page www.creatinemonohydrate.net, I guess you will find a lot of answers there

I hope this helps. Good luck!

I've never heard anything about creatine being bad for your liver but as for the kidney problems...that could only happen if you don't follow instructions on your creatine tub. I forget the details exactly how creatine works but I know it puts more water into your muscles and therefore you have to drink more water for your other bodily functions (ie filtering out your body). So if you don't drink enough water while on creatine, thats when you can have kidney problems.

Again, creatine bad for liver or kidneys: that's hogwash. You may want to read your label again. You got the water right though; you need to hydrate by drinking lots of water in order to make good use of it. Otherwise, won't do you any good.

I think the information about it being bad for your kidney's and liver stems from cases where people don't drink enough water. You have to drink a lot of water while you're taking creatine, or it will have bad effects.
