I have never taken any supps except whey. I am starting creatine at the end of this month and I am just wondering about the water retention. I know the water gets absorbed into the muscle but will this make me look bloated or will I keep my shape? Also, will I continue to lose fat if I continue my current eating habits while taking this, or is creatine considered a bulking supplement? sorry for so many questions, just want to have my bases covered before I start.

If you are not going to do a competition or anything like that, then creatine should be fine. There is debate as to the water retention with creatine, whether it is in the muscle itself or exterior. I think the quality of the creatine may have as much to do with this as anything. My experience with creatine is fine, it helps keep your strength up while on a calorie restricted diet also. It seems to have its best effects for me within the 2 weeks after loading, then tapers off. But it will not make you fat, could make you retain a bit of water, but as I stated, unless modeling or competition is your goal here, I wouldn't worry.

Ron-Do you cycle your creatine during a bulking or cutting phase? Or does it make any difference? My husband wants to take it, but I don't want to waste time and money if it should only be taken a certain time.

so what is the best kind of creatine? What kind of results have people gotten out there. Also is there a specific way to eat while on creatine?
thanks

azredhead57, I cycle my creatine after 8 weeks. 3 weeks off, then reload. I am doing my 3 weeks off myself right now.

littledude, use a micronized creatine. The consensus of lots of folks on here is the Creapure brand. I like AST micronized creatine myself, but either will do you well.
