Bulking = gaining weight/massCutting = dieting to whittle away excess fat from bulking and define muscle mass obtained Hope this helps... -------------- **_Robert_** Pain is temporary; glory is forever! |

Thanks. Is there a specific time period for a bulking phase? I am wondering because I am wanting to do a show in the spring and I have heard as the show gets closer you should be on your cutting phase. |

Yes it is correct that as the show gets closer you are on a cutting phase. This is because you want to loose the fat so your muscles that you got while on the bulking phase show through. |

============ Quoting from tkd1122: During your cutting phase are you susposed to still lift heavily? ============= Well yes and no. You definitely need to continue lifting or you'll risk to loose your muscles because of the strict diet BUT some days you'll not be able to lift extremely heavy (often because of lack of energy....) AND sometimes to speed up the weight loss (and your metabolism) you can lift lighter, more sets and repetitions and less recovery time. -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

Hmmm not only body builders Tiffany. What is toning? It's just another word for putting on muscles...... We NEED to bulk as well to shape our bodies but of course we (normally!) don't really want to put on as much muscle mass as the guys (and honestly we cannot since we don't have the needed hormones so it's not even a choice!!) -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

I am trying to lose 10 pounds of body fat and am doing the weight loss & toning program. Generally I warm up w/ 16 reps then go to 12, 10, & 8 reps. Should I be doing higher reps? -------------- 'Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. I did the mass program on here for about 5 weeks and now I don't have time to go the gym however, I will be doing some other strength training exercises and lots of cardio. I am very pleased with the results that I got. If you don't have a lot of muscle mass, you may want to bulk up a little, then start to cut it down. That is basically what I am doing and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. You won't bulk like a man unless you take hormones, so don't worry too much about over doing it.-------------- Lisa |

Excactly. Metraa, Roni just gave you the answer.AND it's also soooo much easier to cut when you have build up a little lean muscle mass first. SO it's something like this: 1) start weight training, get to know all the machines, the exercises etc 2) cardio 3-4 times a week for 20-45 mins 3) eat clean and several times daily 4) now lift heavy to build up some niiiice muscles and work each muscle group only once a week With this you'll automatically loose weight and beautiful curves will start to appear on your body. After around 12 weeks, you can finally start to cut: 1) Work your muscles twice a week but lighter, faster and more reps (circuit training could be an idea) 2) Cardio the same amount but try including HIIT 3) diet, cycling your carb intake Et voila! Beautiful girl, here you go!! (o; It sounds so easy huh?!! But honestly with a little determination and discipline, you can all get what you really want!!! -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |
