I've got a Martial arts tournement comming up at the end of August and I need to drop a weight class or two. Should I cut weight like a body builder? I've cut weight before for wrestling but I had a noticalbe loss of muscle as well as fat and as we know that's bad. The way I cut before was through strict caloric restriction (1300 calories or less a day). If you guys could give some other options other then such a drastic caloric restriction it would be very helpful.
Thanks for the help

I don't think you have another option. However, you can probably maintain most of your muscle tone by maintaining high protein intake and continue with resistance training.
Good luck! What type of martial arts do you currently practice?

You could probably do it in 14-16 weeks. Depends on how long you have been exercising and where you are at, but that is what I would think. Maybe 12 weeks, but that is pushing it a little. I am guessing you are male? Your profile isn't filled out, so I don't know.
