How much water should I drink per day? Is there a such thing as too much water?

I think the only time you can drink too much water is if you start floating. I wish I had that problem. I just haven't EVER been one to drink much of anything. Don't know how all of these people do it ... My boyfriend can drink one of those huge things of water in less than 15 minutes it'd take me all day to finish one of those.
What do you do to drink so much water ? Just asking so maybe I can have some tips and start drinking more. |

Hi Laney! Well I drink 2.3 Liters per (8 hr) day. I have a big water jug type thing (looks like one of those huge culligan/crystal springs water containers from a filtered water machine you see at businesses but in "mini" size) I fill it up in the morning when I get to work and I have it all finished by qutting time! This works the best for me because before I would just drink 2 - 32 ounce glasses a day and now it is a little bit more!!!

WOW! lol I hardly get one glass of water down a day. I've started keeping a pretty good sized glass with me though to try and drink more. :)

I think 6-8 12 oz glasses a day is a good standard.
I usualy drink 2-3 between breakfast & lunch, 1-2 between lunch and supper, 1-2 between supper and bedtime. -------------- "Get everthing you want--just make a little change now" |

hehehe I think that's the point adidas_swimmer is to clense your system. I've been told before that your body gets used to it after a little bit and you'll stop having to go every 10 minutes or so. :) hehe

LOL - Yea that's the sucky part about water, luckily my manager just thinks it is funny that I have to go to the bathroom every 30 mins!! I think it totals 78 ounces that I drink a day at work.

Okay - what I've heard, is you're supposed to drink 1/2 your body weight in onces. Example: say you weigh 150. One half=75. So you need to drink 75 onces of water a day. Acutally quite a lot - but it's reallly good for you. Plus, once you drink a lot, you won't have to go to the bathroom a lot, and you will feel healthier as it will not only clean your body, but help you lose weight.
Oh - and if your pee is clear, you're hydrated enough :-D |

I am somehow able to drink an insane amount of water. I used to never drink it as a kid, but now i finish a 20L jug in about 3-4 days. I can't go without it now.

Geez...I finish almost a gallon during my workout (weight-lifting).lol Everyone is different but it is suggested, without reference just trust me, that one must consume at least '8' -8oz. cups of water per day for normal bodily function. One who is active should increase as necessary. This amount is true for most normal body types and both genders. -------------- May the lift be with you. |

This might sound stupid but could you substitute drinking something like gatorade or poweraide instead of the water. Or is there to much sugar or something in there that will decrease the benefits.

Nothing replaces good 'ol fashioned H2O. Besides, your post-workout drink should help replenish almost everything you've lost during an intense workout. eenochs,
Why don't you try the Fruit20's or drink the gaterade another time and fill it with water the next time. Even when you wash the jug it still has a taste of the gaterade in it. hehehe Or lemon/lime water? It's all good! I wish I could drink a lot. Never have been able to. |

I don't believe there is a set amount of water to drink, really. The whole point is to keep your body hydrated. Fluids also aid in the processing of fiber. So, if you have a high fiber diet, you should be drinking plenty of fluids. Water just happens to be an especially good source, healthwise.
I slip a tea bag and 2 pks of Splenda into my water bottles. It works great. It gives it a subtle taste and I drink more fluids through out the day. And this gives me the variety of many flavors to choose from. ~b |

I know what you mean! And Yes, it does! What I do to combat this is have my drink readily available with me everywhere I go and sip it (rather than guld down glass after glass). This also helps me with not having to make thousands of 'potty' trips. *lol*

Hyponatremia is a rare condition in which one takes in TOO much water. It is usually seen in elite runners. The problem comes when the individual takes in too much water and their sodium levels drop too low because of the release of sodium in sweat. It is VERY important to keep well hydrated, just not over hydrated. I hope this helps. :)

I drink a lot every day although there was a time when I didn't. Your body gets used to it, but it does take time. After a while, at least in my experience, I prefer to drink water over anything else. Once you get used to it, bathroom trips will also slow down quite a bit. I quit drinking soda pop about 6 years ago, and since then, I have not really had a weight problem (just a little trouble dropping it off after having babies, but that generally always takes time).

I'm one that also hates water. I weight in at 250 and figure 72oz of water a day would be a nice figure to start at and let my thirst dictate if I consume any more.
But in doing so I also don't want to drink any more often then I have to. I drink 2 or 3 large styrofoam cups of liquid a day. Be it coffee in the morning, earl grey tea in the after noon, and water in the afternoon. I was curious if I suplemented the other liquids for water how much would I be drinking and how often through my day would I need to consume one of those styrofoam cups of water. Well with a little invistigation I found the cups to hold 16oz+- on how you fill it. I'm at work 8hrs a day (most days hehe) and I'm off work and awake at least 5 hours. So thats at least 13hrs of time to consume water. I minus the drive to work and back and that leaves me roughly around 11 hours to drink water. 11hours to consume 72oz.....how many large 16oz styrofoam coffee cups do I need to drink a day and how often? I narrowed it down to 10hrs just for my typical schedule and it turned out I needed to drink 4 1/2 of those glasses a day. I wasnt too far behind that amount to begin with. Thats about a cup and a half more then a normal day. 4 1/2 large styrofoam coffee cups...how ofted do I drink one? Just over every 2 hours!!! I dont think drinking one of these cups every 2 hours will make me pee my brains out. We will see! What do yall think about it? |

hmmm, I the only two things I drink - water&milk. 34oz of water in the morning with breakfast because of the whole creatine thing, and 34oz(with creatine) at night, not to mention about 16-32oz during the day. But I think that since I take 6g total of creatine ethyl ester a day, SOme of that water goes toward that.
