Well guys after much reading on the topic. I went and bought a pair of good ole converse chuck taylor all stars. I have found they make quite a difference in squating and deadlifting. They are extremely flat and really help you to push thoose feets through the floor. Figured I would share the wealth lol-------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. I've never really thought about shoes affecting a lift. I usually wear basketball shoes and stuff since that's what I'm training for.

I was just wearing new balance running shoes. And timstar if you wear no shoes when working out your nuts lol. Drop some weight on your bare foot and tell me how it feels. lol-------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine now and forever. No one holds command over me. well unless he was wearing steel toes.......it still be broke.
What I have read, closer you are to the ground, less you have to pick it off the ground. Wrestling shoes, socks, barefeet, get you "closer" down, so the bar is higher up on the shin. In powerlifting, every lil inch counts. -------------- \" The only true eye, is your minds eye\"- plato |

Every inch in elevation may count. But what's also a big deal surface friction. A flat sole shoe has more surface area in contact with the floor than a bare foot/slipper, and therefore, greater friction. Also, I don't like the "spill-over" sensation from being barefoot, that is, where the sides of the feet flare out and downward. I always preferred the tightness and support that I felt in a shoe vs. a barefoot or slipper. Kinda the same way I liked the tight feeling of wearing high, tight socks with those shoes.-------------- Michael Nothing personal.... Strictly business. |

I agree with andrew. I use my old "retired" pair of wrestling shoes when lifting. although i have heard nothing but good about a pair of chuck taylors. Funny how the ugliest shoes (wrestling shoes and chuck taylors) are the ones we always seem to pick to work out in.

ah.. i never new the squat weight to fall forward on my toes considering im holding it on my back... lol if i was to drop the weight i would hafta fall over forward and the weight would crush my back/neck first... if anything ur suggesting there the weight would hafta FLIP OVER my head... then magically fall on my toes by which the bar is actually a few inches HIGHER then the actual weights on the end thus the barbel wouldnt touch my toes... besides if i fall i just lean backwards a bit and the weight goes backwards and i quickly jump outta the way forward... but that aint happened to me in a long time... lol and yes i do know the feeling of a weight dropping on ur toe... try a hammer on a cold day... lucky my toe didnt break..
but in all that asside if i was whereing shoes would it increase my form or weight on the squat and deadlift at all?? |

I dont think that he means to drop the squat on your toes, I think hes referring to the dropping a plate on your foot. Which is painful WITH shoes. I dont know if it would help your form. Alot of people may think your crazy, but then again, when I squat at the school weight room, they think I;m crazy to lift without a pad.

in that case.. i must be crazy to occasionally bench without a shirt, or bench without the locks on the bar to hold the weight, or to go for a max negative without a spotter, squat without a pad?? man ur crazy...
whats a pad? is that why the back of my neck always gets all red from squats... eh.. crazy:o |

LOL. I was only trying to show how what some people think is crazy, others see as the norm. Whereas I love the feel of the steel on my shoulders and neck, the rest of the guys in the weight room think I'm weird or...gasp...crazy. I've done everything else you said up there at some point, probably many points, except for the max negatives. Max negatives without a spotter seems a bit excessive.
