Hello to all. I am a 31 yr old mom of three. I am 5'0 and I weigh about 240 lbs to be exact. I finally decided to get up and do something about my weight. I am just starting out and all of this is new to me. This will be my first time ever trying a diet and exercise plan so I really need all the support I can get. I gained about 50 lbs after each of my three c-sections and have kept the weight. I have the over hanging stomach and I hope and pray that when I do start losing weight it will get rid of some of this belly if not all of it. I know that I won't have the six pack abs and all but if I can just get back down to a size 7 or 9 that would be great anything instead of a 22 or 24 I'll even be happy at an 11 or 13. Does anybody have any suggestions for a beginner?

Start with tiny goals first...this is the key...a long term goal of a size 7 is great....but first you need to get to an 18....you have 3 kids...get outside and play with them...make goals of extra walks...Every bit of ADDED activity will help...with each goal you hit you will gain confidence...track ALL of your food...that means if you cleaned your kids' plates, because you didn't want to waste it, write it down. If you keep a food journal you become more aware of what goes into your mouth. Keep only healthy food in the house (many moms use the excuse that the kids need the cookies/candies etc...set a good example)no one in the family NEEDS the junk...if the kids see you eating carrots and healthy snacks they will be more likely to do the same.
Fill out your profile...give us a sample days worth of food...there are lots of people here who will help and encourage you....feel free to email me!
you can do it!

Check out bodybuilder's grocery list thread...for healthy food choices....

like lonegirl said, start out slow...it will take you 2-3 years to achieve your goal...perhaps longer...but in the long run, it's nothing...healthy lifestyle is a life long commitment...so that once you get to size X....you won't just revert back to unhealthy habits....

try to walk outside with your kids as much as possible....if at all possible walk them to kindergarden, school, etc...

try to walk/jog-run(after a while you'l be able to do it) in the morning for 30 min as well....and a light 20-30 min walk before sleep....

start lifting weights....do compound exercises with 10-12 reps per set...do fullbody training 3 times a week...

Eat 10 meals a day...which includes meals and snacks....snacks are a handful of some healthy snack(nuts, yogurt, piece of cheese) and meals should be slightly more made up of a lean protein source and some complex/fibrous carbs(e.g. chicken breast+yams+broccoli)....the rest smal amount of calories from fat should be made up of healthy choices(flax seeds, nuts, avacadoes)

Overall try to lose 1-2 lb a week...so that's 4-8 lb a month....the slower you lose the weight the less risk you run of having to have plastic surgery to remove the excess skin...(the slower you lose weight, the more likely the skin will tighten on its own...although you may still need some surgical procedure to remove excess skin)....
