Hi carivan, thanks for responding. I am a male, 5'8'', 195 lbs, my current activity level is pretty low since i do have a desk job but i try and go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week to run and work out. I just dont have the knowledge of eating right and every one seems to have there own ways of eating right. I am trying to loose weight and tone muscles. I have a beer belly i need to get rid of b4 my wedding in sept.

The way I see it in order to lose fat (notice I didn't say weight there) you need two things :
1. Take in less energy than you use (so either eat less calories than before , burn more calories than before by exercise, or combine the two) 2. When your body has used all the energy from your meals it turns to stored energy. The body has to decide whether to burn fat or muscle and will use the source it thinks it needs less. So if your body thinks it is starving because you haven't eaten for 8 hours it will think it needs to hang on to fat stores and will break down muscle for energy. If you're eating regularly and working out the body will think it needs to hang on to muscle and will burn fat stores. I have recently discovered from personal experience that eating regular small meals makes it much easier to lose weight -try 6 small meals every 3-4 hours |

Thanks for the tips princesslodgey. I have often heard of this eating 5-6 small meals a day but my problem is that I do not know what to eat or how much to eat. Any suggestions?

You should try the fat loss and toning program here on ft.
It works if you eat right. But remember to be patient and DON'T weigh yourself. Get use to using a tape measure. Princess is right on with her comments. If you want to reduce, Look at starting with 12- 15 calories per pound per day, adjust as you see necessarry. 12should be the minimum you ingest to lose, but try at around 13-14 for startes. see how it goes for 2 weeks with that. Make sure you eat alot of protein, at least 190 grams per day, same with your carbs, (only good complex carbs, and none after 6pm.).Only eat good fats, no crap! Hope this helps, and the beer belly, reduce to 2 beers only on sundays! Hope this helps. -------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

i am no expert but to ad on to what carivan and the princess have said, its best not weigh yourself, in my case i have lost absolutely no weight, but large shirts fit me again and i have lost an inch in my waist, after eating more effeciently for my body to break down the fat. look at bb1's grocery list, it is very helpful. when you wake up try drinking a protein drink and work out in the morning it makes a complete difference. additionally drink more water, you may have to use the bathroom 8 times a day like i do but its well worth it, i have seen tons of difference. good luck brutha man and good luck at the wedding.
