Hey everyone! I am scared that I will gain weight again. Also after I read a few posts on the Message Board I noticed that most people who eat 2,000 or more calories (because of their body weight) is scared they will gain the weight instead of lose it. I have to admit I have that fear also. I have recently lost 50 pounds, and I was wanting to have some abs and get rid of the extra fat I have around my midsection. I lost the 50 pounds before I signed up for ft. On my newly discovered diet, which does involves all of the food groups, I have increased my calorie intake from 700 to 1,470. I weight 140 pounds so I times it by 10 then added half of my bodyweight. Which I noticed asimmer was telling another person who was also scared of gaining weight. I know 700 wasn't at all healthy!!! I am getting 150 protein, 200 carbs, and 22.6 grams of fat per day. I started my new diet seven days ago (its been a week)...and I have gained two pounds instead of lost it! Is it because I increased my calories so quickly instead of over a period of time? Muscle gain maybe (I have been working out and doing a lot of cardio lately)? Will my body eventually adjust to the new diet then begin to lose that extra body fat? Please reassure me of something before I start to panic!! Ah! I have also hit a plateau! I have just increased my cardio and have been changing around my activities to keep my body guessing...Now...should I maybe increase my diet to 3,000 calories then drop it back to 1,470? Will that maybe get me over the hump? My goal weight it 125-130....I am having a hard time and I am also getting discouraged...

littlegex,
How much do you work out? Do you eat 5-6 times per day? If you did nothing (ie. lie in bed) you would burn almost all those calories. If you are active, then you are probably building muscle. Your body suddenly has what it needs to build itself back up, and it is trying to do so. You should probably be around 160 pounds anyway. My point is work out, eat right, and ignore the scale. Get out your Mom's measures tape, and keep track of your progress with that. Watch your muscles start to show up, and be happy with looking better.
When you diet like you did you lose a lot of muscle as well as fat. Your body probably just wants the muscle back. You could probably even increase you intake some as long as you work out 3 times a week. Also don't ignore the cardio workout. Don't overdo it though. Give your body a day or two to recover in between workouts. Good luck and congrats.
Also this diet is working for me. I eat 2600+ calories everyday. I am not losing much weight, but I am getting compliments on the change.

Aleazar hit it on the nose. Remember, if your hungry all the time your not eatting enough! I used to be a heavy guy but I managed to lose 60lbs over a summer. For the following year I was so afraid of getting fat again I kept my calories intake very low (like 1200 a day). I was hungry all the time.

When I finally clued in and realized that being hungry sucks ass, I changed my diet and slowly increased my calories intake. I get around 3000 calories a day now and my pant size has actually went down, but my weight has gone up (thats good).

Remember, eatting doesn't make you fat. Eatting crap and doing nothing makes you fat. So if your active and eatting healthy, you got nothing to worry about!

That happened to me also. I was eating 1200-1500 cals a day and found out from asimmer that it wasn't enough. First she had me go up to 2300 a day for 2 weeks to get my body used to feeling satisfied. I did gain a pound or two, but then I went done to 1900 a day and started losing. Muscle weighs more than fat and if you didn't have much to begin with you will probably put some on pretty quickly with your workouts. Take your measurements once a month instead of hopping on the scales every few days.

Thanks for the advice guys. I feel better now. I am working out three days a week (every other week) and doing cardio every day. Im a competitive swimmer and do about 4,000 yards everyday in the pool. Just think..that is like running 40 football fields! It really does get my heart rate up! I do rest on Wed. and Sun. You shouldn't worry about my not doing anything. Im very active indeed. Plus...Im not hungry all the time. Every time I eat I feel full! Here is my diet for overview-

Morning 6:00am: Protein Shake

Morning 8:00am: 1-2 cups of Oatmeal (sometimes a Bagel), 1/4 cup raisins, 3-4 eggs whites, and orange juice to drink

Lunch 11:30am: 3-6 oz chicken breast, two pieces of wheat bread, and a apple and a banana, milk

Snack 3:00pm (before working out): 2 packets of string cheese, and a granola bar

Dinner 6:30pm: 4 oz. chicken breast, turkey, or fish, baked sweet potato, 1 cup of peas, 1 cup of steamed baby carrots, more orange juice!

Snack before bed 8:00pm: 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and sliced peaches. Protein shake.

Tell me if I need to change anything?
