I know I should stay away from it but I'm not really sure why. No calories, no sugar, no carbs. Is it because of all the chemicals that is in it? Or just the fact that there is no nutritional value in it. I like to have a diet ginger ale a few times per week with my lunch. Is this ok?

Don't make it harder than it has to be michelle. It's liquid and you're thirsty. :) I've researched this one before but can't find that file but there isn't any "real" documented problems that I can find.-------------- Mike in Pensacola Now. |

cheating with a diet soda is alot better than something else, say, fried fish and chips. it wont kill you to have it every once and awhile. personally, i find the aspartame in some gets me jittery and ancy.. there has also been research showing that aspartame can mess with your metabolism. just check around the internet for some VALID research if you're interested.

Thats a million$$ question! You will find plenty on the forums here about it if you type aspertame in to the "searchfit buddy" at the bottom of this page. In my opinion, 2 a week wouldn't harm!-------------- Scales are for dead weight: We are not dead yet! Still trying to find out how to do the Hollywood Free Press. Ivan Montreal Canada |

There was also a study just published that said diet cola drinkers had as much of a problem if not more loosing weight than those who were drinking regular sodas. The groups were also consuming the same amount of calories. This probably goes back to what Bropie was saying about metabolism. Here is an article I found about it.

After you make your decision, then you can help argue which sweetener tastes better! ;) -> http://www.freetrainers.com/FT/jsp/pro/Message.jsp?f_ix=3&t_ix=2886
I perscribe to 'everything in moderation'. Having a diet soda once and a while won't hurt. Just try not to drink so much, make it your choice some where behind water. |

This post could go on indefinitely. Then there's the study that indicates the caffeine in some soft drinks aid the fat loss process. :)

I'm struggling with the same decision "should I stop drinking diet soda or am I just looking for ways to punish myself by taking EVERYTHING that I love away"? I drink
1-2 diet Pepsi's a day is that to much and if so why? My husband says I'm addicted! I still get my water in about 64 to 96oz a day. I get into kicks where I cut out the soda and drink green tea which I heard is better for you. How much is to much of diet soda? Should I try and cut out diet soda or cut out caffeine? |

Whoa! I just did a search on my diet soda question and theres been alot of talk on that subject! Needless to say today I am cutting back to 1-2 a week then none at all!! Even though it's diet zero everything theres nothing good about the stuff. This is the push I needed to finally get off the junk.

Drink it if ya want- there is really nothing in it at all.
Actually after long use your body accepts it as nothing more than water. The same goes w/tea and coffee. I do think the non-aspartame products are a better choice. Pepsi one has always been my fsavorite. -------------- mind and body, like man & wife, never always agree w/each other. |

We drink Diet Rite like it is going out of style. It is made with Splenda. Basically the first soda to start using Splenda and definitely the first to use Splenda around the board. It is from the same family as RC Cola, 7UP and Cheerwine (a southern thang). Diet Rite has like 7 flavors and they are really good. My fiance, roommate and I have lost a combined 90lbs or so in the past year with drinking it and water. We do not buy anything with aspartame. Oh and many sodas like Diet Coke have some caffeine and sodium but Diet Rite has NOTHING so it is basically water.
Diet soda sometimes has the reverse effect on people because they believe that if they had a diet soda then they can eat a little more. Which is why you see some people ordering a Big Mac with a diet soda. |
