I thought I was doing well in terms of diet, until I decided to consult with a trainer, who told me I was way short of what my body needed for fuel, esp. protein. I added up everything for a typical day, and it was only about 1200 calories. No wonder my body's been changing only slowly. Today I got proactive. I started a journal of everything I put in my face. I've got a book that breaks everything under the sun down into macronutrient values. I actually ate to meet my ft requirements today, and I feel very satisfied. I don't think I've ever gotten to enjoy so much food! Hopefully this is the start of some real progress for me.

You'll never be able to change your body if you don't get the needed nutrition.... That's one of the main problems with us women. We are often so afraid of eating enough and we don't realize how much we actually need to build muscles....
I try to get in around 150-170 gr of proteins daily....

Good for you effalunt. I preach this to people. Guesswork will never get you very far. Hard to remember what you ate, how much. You have made a great step. You are well on your way to getting serious now. As you say, write down everything you put in your mouth. You will be amazed at what you see you can change. I used to eat some protein and think I was getting enough, but until I started keeping my log, I wasn't getting near enough. Now I always do. Good luck to you.

One effective means of logging food is to get a software program. Once you have all your favorite foods input into the program, daily logging becomes a breeze. I believe there are many free such software packages available on the Internet (there may be something on this site, but I am not sure). Personally, I use Dietpower (and No, I don't work for them). It has been well worth the $50 I paid for it. Very easy to use and since I began using it I have lost 20 pounds while maintaining muscle mass.

Day three of food logging today. Friends came by for dinner last night and thought it was hilarious that I wrote down everything in my little book. They got it once I explained that I had a quota to fill for protein, and it was about actually eating enough food. I like my little book and content guide because it can go everywhere with me, so I never have an excuse to slack on my journal.

effalunt....you got it! That is the easiest way to do it. I buy a spiral notebook for $1.69 and it is good for months. The nice thing about it is as you say, you can carry it with you. Computer programs are good as long as you are around one. Otherwise you have to remember everything, and as you have already found out or you wouldn't have the notebook, that doesn't work well! Great to hear of your progress. You will be amazed the gains you will start making now.
