I was reading through some of these posts, and i see people talking about transfat and saturated fat and all that. i have no idea if there are other tipes of fats, but if so, i was wondering, whats the difference between all these types of fat. What type of different affects do they have on the body, which fats are better than others?

thanks

the bad

trans fat
- increase bad cholesterol, increase risk of heart disease/diabetes and weaken immune system
- made of vegetable oil and hydrogen, turns to solid at room temp.
THESE DO NOT NEED TO BE CONSUMED WHATSOEVER!

saturated fats
- raises cholesterol/heart disease risk/cancer risk, preferentially stored for later use
- found mainly in meats and dairy, so keep to lean or low fat choices

the good

monounsaturated and polyunsaturated
- helps deliver vitamins, aids in production of testosterone for muscle growth, helps keep us satiated
- polys are omega 3's, like those found in fish, and help cleanse arteries. also includes flaxseed.
- mono's are in nuts, olives, avocados, and olive and canola oils. they reduce cholesterol, help burn bad fat, and keep you satiated.

in a nut shell..
