I have a question that is overlooked a lot in the world of bodybuilding,…how much do bodybuilders get paid, generally(I know bodybuilding is not a legal job)—I just wanna know how much a competition can be worth, even down to the teen competitions… :)
Thank you, Pj

Competitions at this level(under pros) are strictly for prestige or to get your pro card. Trophies are involved. I have won 7 of the them now, not a dime in cash! But the experience and prestige and the feeling of knowing you competed against some of the physiques around is pretty cool. It is really a rush hitting that stage. Money, no...money spent, yes!

You must compete (and place in the top 3, I believe) in a pro-card qualifying event, such as something from the NPC. Check out this link for more info:

One of my favorite descriptions given by a female bodybuilder (Gail Moher) of herslef/her profession 'Starving Artist'.
At the top level they make some money when they win, but it doesn't equal the money and time spent to get there. Some top bodybuilders get sponsors and contracts with supplement companies, but the majority are supporting themselves with full-time jobs.

The key to making money in bodybuilding is to take your physique and market it somehow, wether it's making a name for yourself by endorsing product, their training, or becomming an actor. From what I've seen, bodybuilders are probably the most underpaid individuals in the athletic spectrum. Jay Cutler just won the Arnold Classic and walked away with $100,000 ,a new Hummer and a $20,000 Rolex watch. When you compare this to the million dollars a year and up that football, baseball and basketball players make, it's pretty paltry, especially with the amount of pharmacuticals Jay had to invest in to win(and the toll it takes on the body in the long run).
If it's money you want, you're in the wrong sport. Start throwing that pigskin around!
