I am only on my second day of training, but I have to do some Incline Presses. Do I need a spotter for this exercise, or do I just lift what I can without having to worry about tha?(I always see spotters at the gym, but they are lifting an enormous amount of weight)
kaydee - as a beginner you probably don't want to be lifting so much weight that you need a spotter. In the beginning stages of working out you need to teach your muscles/mind to work together and learn movement patterns. you also want to let your joints/tendons/ligaments get used to the new workloads by starting at a manageable weight and gradually increasing it. One guideline for beginners is to pick a weight you can lift 15 times and do 12 rep sets with it. Once the number of prescribed sets feels easy with that weight, you can go up.
