Hi everybody,
Last April (2002), I got injured and stopped lifting for a while to recover.
When I started lifting again I didnt start with creatine again, but I think I want to start it back again.
I have half a container of creatine mono-hydrate that I bought in January 2001 -- will it still work?

It should have an exp date on the label. I think all consumables have to have a shelf life printed on the label. Have you kept it in the freezer or refrigerator? That will add to the shelf life.

Victoria is correct re: the label date. But if it doesn't have one (which would lead me to question the company's honesty), there are a few things to go by:
1. Generally speaking, creatine has a shelf life of about 4 years, but with some conditions.
2. What brand is the creatine? If it's not a top brand, it may contain alot of impurities, and the more impurities, the faster the expiration.
3. What type of environment has it been in? Creatine is a very unstable molecule, particularly in regards to water moisture. If you live in a desert, for example, creatine will last longer than if you live in a tropical jungle (LOL).
Hope that helps............

Also as with any other supplements, the longer a product goes past it's expiration the more the product loses it's effectiveness.
