Hello everyone,
Although I have been into sports all my life, I am quite new to regular weight training.
I usually train twice during weekdays (Monday and Thursday), and during these days I leave work at 6pm and I go to the gym at 8pm for weightlifting + cardio. There is a 2 hour gap between them. What should I eat after I leave work to help my exercise routine in best way? I am not trying to gain size, I am trying to lose some amount of fat and build lean muscles.
Will it be better if I just eat salad or should I go for a regular meal? (meat or chicken etc.).
Usually it will be too late after the workout (10pm) to eat something so I try to avoid that. Is this also correct or am I doing something wrong.
Thanks for your help.

That's a little confusing "There is a 2 hour gap between them." Between the weights and cardio?
I have a similar, although not quite as bad a schedule as you. I bring a peant butter sandwich to work with me and have that on the way home. After the workout I have some protein with water and about an hour later, it's bedtime and I have some cottage cheese or yogurt. You need some carbs in your system prior to the workout and you don't want to go to bed hungry so you just have to adjust.

Hi,
I have been in the industry for 20 years and I know scheduling is the hardest thing to get somewhat right. So I can make a suggestion, eat a 40-30-30 protein bar between work-outs and a little plug for B2B bars, which I personally designed, are all natural and have extra virgin coconut oil in them to sustain your energy and will get you through your weight training without crashing. After training ingest about 25 grms of protein and 25 grms of carbs to rebuild and drive the amino acids into the muscles. Hope that helps.

2 hour gap is between I finish work (6pm) and I start workout (8pm). On other nights when I do not workout I normally have a regular dinner between those times. But on the nights when I do workout I am trying to eat less after work so I would not have a full stomach when I start workout. On those nights when I will be going for a workout then would some amount of baked potatoes be useful for getting carbs perhaps?

I would recommend about 4oz of sweet potatoe in the evening because it is low glycemic and the chances of the carbs to be stored up as fat is low. The slow burning carb will not raise blood sugar quickly so you would have 8 hours of sleep to digest. Also coupled with an easy digestable protein like fish this will help to drive the protein into the cell.
See you in the kitchen.
