i'm just wondering if there is a difference between eating fast and eating slowly. does your body have a harder time taking everything in if you eat it too fast? just curious...

Eating slower means you'll eat less because as your body makes insulin it'll cause you to feel full, however it's not an immediate affect. So if you take your time and eat a half a plate in the time you'd usually eat a full one, more then likely you wouldn't get to the full plate.

that makes sense. i've always been an extremely fast eater. i can eat a lot in quite a short amount of time. i just wondered if this could be related to me being a hard gainer in any way.

I remember reading somewhere that your brain takes 13-15 minutes to realize food. If dieting, it therefore may be wise to eat slowly, you should be able to consume less and feel full or at least give your brain the time to get the feeling of satiation.

Eating more slowly usually also means you're chewing more. This breaks the food into smaller pieces which means more surface area. More surface area means your body has an easier time breaking stuff down and you absorption efficiency improves!
(Correct me i I'm wrong on that!!)

I thought that they tell you not to eat fast because it takes awhile for messages to be sent to your brain telling you you're full, so if you're eating fast and you eat till you're full, you can overeat. But if you aren't going to eat until you feel full and you're eating only a certain and reasonable quantity of food, then that eating fast rule shouldn't matter right?? Like i could have a tuna sandwhich for lunch and eat it as fast as i want... :surprised:
