Hi, I've reched a plateu in my fitness routine and i'm ready to switch things up. I want to start doing weights in the morning now, but i'm not sure how i'm going to make it happen. I need to start working out at 6am so i get to work on time. My concern is what i should eat before i workout, because I'm not going to be able to wake up at 4am, eat a meal, and sit around and wait for it to digest. I know liquid meals digest faster, but is 30 minutes before a workout too soon? I'd really rather not have to wake up to early. Any tips or help would be great, thanks

well i think you can eat a big whole meal before your workout without any problems, as long as you wont make abs... personnally, i have no problem, but my mom, in the contrary, she says she cant workout when she "has the food on her throat".

The one problem with eating a big meal right before training is that the muscles require good supply of blood while working out. If the digestive system is also using excess amounts of blood to digest a big meal, there wont be enough to go around and your muscles will suffer for it. After a nights sleep your body is depleted of carbs. and since carbs are needed to produce glycogen the muscles need for your training, if you have time, have a high carb meal before you train. With not so much time in the morning, a light meal consisting of fruit, fruitjuice or toast might be a better alternative.

brent224,

i totaly understand you problem!
i've moved my workout to mornings as well. 10AM is the only time i have availible and unlike last year when i was working out at the afternoons, my gains are very very poor. in fact, i've noticed that it takes for your body much more time to digest the first meal, and i've found that it would take my body about an hour and a half to get the job done, unlike last year. overall im way more tired, and need more time in breaks between sets. sometimes, i just sit for 5 minuts cause my body cant go for additional stress. once i got really dizzy and almost threw up, dunno why, it was a very weird feeling :)

overall it's pretty hard, unless you wake up about 3 hours before your workouts.

my advice would be, involving some sugar in your meal to avoid overfilling your stomach with bread, pasta, rice or whatever... it's not the best solution, but would workout :)

cheerz :)
