I don't sleep very soundly at night and always wake up one or two times. Each time I wake up I'm VERY hungry, and absolutely cannot resist the temptation to eat! I usually am able to stick to protein even though I crave sweets--bad. This is usually 2 or 3 in the morning. I've been known to fall asleep while eating or to leave good food out on the counters to go bad.

anybody else have this problem?

It sounds to me like you are not eating enough, especially with reading your journal entries in the general health and fitness section. Been so calorie deprived that your body feels the need to wake up is not good. Your body needs restful sleep to repair damage caused during exercise, also at the moment your body will be cannibalising other (healthy) tissues to feed its need to repair damaged muscle. When the body feels it’s been starved for long periods it breaks down muscle and other healthy tissues often preferentially to fat stores as they consume much more energy to maintain compared to fat. I would suggest eating more, at the very least enough to get you through the night without waking up. Also what time is your least meal before you go to bed, if it is several hours you will be starving your body for 10+ hours between it and breakfast.

If you don't want to eat at night.......keep a bottle of Listerine next to your bed, swish that around in your mouth for thirty seconds and that craving won't be so strong......

hey tara
I used to have that problem too. Before you go to bed, eat some non-fat cottage cheese. This is high in protein and it gels your stomach (got that from bb1).

Also, I take ZMA. It is not a sleep agent, just minerals, but when I take it, I sleep solidly through the night. ZMA also really helps in your workouts and recovery.

Hope that helps...

Thanks all three of you. I do eat before I go to bed, usually some egg whites or other type of protein. I feel as though I'm getting adequate nutrition. Richard, I'll pass on the listerine!

With your last meal before bed, have a fibrous carb source like a couple cups of vggies. This will help satiate you(make you feel full also). Take some ZMA and go to bed. May do the trick.

Also, cottage cheese as mentioned is a great protein source before bed. If diet is an issue, you may want to opt for eggwhites with the veggies.

Any ZMA will do. I like the chewable Cytodyne brand, but EAS has reformulated theirs to include Vit. C, it is just as good. Just in capsules. If you get it, ignore the before workout option, just take it before bed on an empty stomach.
