I've been hearing about the protein value of cooked vs. uncooked for years but don't have a valid reference so take that for what it's worth. I've probably consumed several thousand raw eggs in my younger days but that was the norm back then and salmonella wasn't very prevalent back then. There's some nasty little bacterial critters in raw eggs that doesn't justify the convenience.

We buy the 100% liguid egg whites that are Pasteurized so as to not take a chance of getting sick from the raw egg whites. 25 calories per 3 tbsp, 5 grams of protein. Easier too, don't have to separate that nasty yellow from the white.

This is from an interview with Dr. Mercola, a nutrition expert. The guy is VERY hardcore though and advocates not putting a single toxin in your body, so keep that in mind. Outside of that, it should be fine.
---------------- Mercola: It's important not to eat your egg whites raw because egg whites have a substance called avidin that will bind to biotin (a B vitamin) and can cause deficiencies over time. You can put the whites in a skillet with some water and put a lid on it and cook them over a very low heat so all the whites are solid white and not burnt.
Eggs are high in protein, which is good, but if people only eat one organic food, it should be eggs. Organic eggs contain a 1:1 omega-6 to omega-3 ratio, while commercial eggs contain a 19:1 omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. Commercial eggs are not unhealthy due to the cholesterol, but due to their excessive omega-6 fats.
Most people can eat one to two dozen eggs per week if cooked properly, as they won't cause your cholesterol to increase with appropriate preparation. However, it's important not to eat eggs daily or an allergy to them can be developed. If the eggs are prepared conventionally, eat them no more than five days per week. ------------

Whoa whoa whoa.....did that doctor say you can develop an allergy from eating eggs every day? I eat about 5 egg whites with my breakfast every day, and I would be pretty much devestated if I became allergic to them. Has anyone else heard of such a thing?

Never heard that one about alergies. And I would never consume a raw eggwhite because of salmenola (spelling)no matter what process it's been through.

Well, I eat 12 eggwhites per day myself, along with adding liquid (ultra pastureized) eggwhites in my drinks. So far so good!

I heard its better to eat ur eggwhites cooked because ur body cant digest it properly and get all the protein out of it if its raw.

i also buy the 100% liquid egg whites and add it to all my protein drinks instead of water - 2 cups per day and have had no problems - all pasturized - no way you can get sick.
