Hello, my name is Mark and I love eggs for breakfast. However, I have heard and read a MILLION different things about egg yolks. I know they are high in cholestoral but i have heard that your body cannot even use the bad cholestoral so it passed through. I saw from the nutrition tracker that there is 5g of fat in the yolks but it says that its niether poly, mono, or saturated fat?!?! :surprised: I have also heard that the yolks are the healthiest part of the whole egg! Someone please tell me whats what, and keep in mind that you may deside how i eat my eggs for the rest of my life.

Currently i eat 2 whole eggs and 2 whites every day. I used to eat them all whole and then I only ate 1 whole and 3 whites... someone please make up my mind

I guess it depends upon what your goals are. I've heard a million different views on eggs as well and I think they get a bad rap.

I eat the WHOLE egg for a couple of reasons. I'm too lazy to separate them, I'm to cheap to buy the whites and I think they are about as perfect as a food as you can get. But mostly one and two.

My doctor and I were yacking about this one day, too and he feels they get a bad rap as well.

I honestly think the jury is out on this and it's like the butter-margaine debate.

Best suggestion I can offer is to experiment and see how they affect you with and without the yolk.

I think as far as cholesterol concerns go, you don't have much to fear from the yolk. It is primarily consumption of trans fats and saturated fats that effect blood cholesterol, not consumption of dietary cholesterol (for the most part). Trans fats cut out completely, saturated fats limit to 1/3 or less of total fat intake.

So, to eat the yolk or not eat the yolk would be determined solely by it's fat content and how the amount of fat fits with your goals. If you have determined that your diet requires X number of fat calories for your goals, and egg yolk number two puts you over your total, feed the yolk to your dog. If not, eat it. I personally eat one whole egg and 3 or 4 whites. Sometimes, I go crazy and eat two whole eggs and a couple of whites.

As far as what kind of fat...I Googled and found that it is mostly unsaturated.

Bodybuilding dogma is rampant. Someone in 'authority' says yolks are bad, and like wildfire on the internet, yolks are bad for you.

i just want everyone to know that this morning I had two whole eggs and instead of eating egg whites i just desided to add fat free cheese because i figured i would more nutrition from the cheese, and i wouldnt have to throw anything away, it always kind of killed me to throw out the yolk...

I know what you mean...that's why I feed mine to the dogs. I buy Omega eggs for my whole egg and buy the 5 dozen for 6 bucks eggs at Costco for my whites.

From: http://food.yahoo.com/blog/beautyeats/13085/4-diet-myths-that-won-t-quit

Myth #4: Eggs up your cholesterol
Fact: For years, this misunderstood food -- low in calories (75), high in vitamins (D, B12, folic acid), and nearly perfect in protein -- was shunned. True, an egg yolk delivers about 220 mg of cholesterol, close to the 300 mg daily cut-off recommended for healthy people. However, heart researchers now think that the mix of fats you eat is more important than the cholesterol in food, plus not everyone seems to be sensitive to it.
Smart move: If you're lucky enough to have enviable cholesterol counts (HDL above 40 mg/dl, LDL below 100), you can enjoy an egg every day, or a couple of really great omelets a week. Otherwise, check with your doctor about how many eggs you can eat -- you may be in for a happy surprise.

wow very interesting, so even if you have healthy cholesterol levels they only recommend one egg yolk a day...

My cholesterol was on the high side, not bad high, but getting there. I continued to eat whole eggs (I eat about a dozen a week) and it went down. I suspect it may have been any number of things I had done or continued doing.

Each person is different. I'm thinking experiment with them, see how the affect you and adjust from there. I eat 'em, I love 'em and I'd be hard pressed to give 'em up.

My cholesterol was high (LDL 157) two years ago. I made slight changes to my diet, but I am eating more eggs than I ever have and my LDL is at 110 (still higher than I'd like, but my HDL is 74, up from 70). To be honest, I didn't even consider cutting back on eggs. I really attribute the change to the change in my workout habits...the heavy weights...more than the diet. I could be wrong...but is definitely the biggest change I've made since my first results.
